Davao Region Sepak Takraw Team Reaches 2017 Palaro Semis


The small and unheralded  Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) elementary boys sepak takraw team has reached the semifinals of the ongoing 2017 Palarong Pambansa in DASJMS Covered Court San Jose, Antique.

The team represented by students from Josefa Llanes Escoda Elementary School in Barangay Maa, Davao City reached the semifinals after beating  Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and ARMM.

The team beat CAR 21-9;21-19 and followed it up with another win against ARMM 21-8;21-9.
The team is set to face the Ilocos Region in the crossover semifinals.
Meanwhile, the Davraa futsal secondary girls has won over Eastern Visayas Region, 7-2 at Hamtic Basketball Court in Antique.

The team were lead by Joyce Semacio and Patricia Erika Francisco in their win in the ongoing Palarong Pambansa. Both Semacio and Francisco provided two goals in their win. The other goals were provided by their teammates Julienne Meredith Mirto, Joannah Marie Adao and Shanelle Charllyne Ostan.

3 PBA Stars From Davao Joins 2017 PBA All Star Weekend in CDO

Three former Davao City basketball stars are part of the 2017 PBA All Star team in its Mindanao leg in Cagayan de Oro City this week.

Former Holy Child of Davao College star Baser Amer, former University of Mindanao star Peter Simon and former Agro Sailor Scottie Thompson are part of the PBA Mindanao team who will face the Gilas Pilipinas team.

Amer, a native of Barangay Maa, Davao City is currently playing well for the Meralto Bolts in the ongoing PBA Commissioners Cup. Simon for his part is part of the veteran crew of Purefood Star Hotshots.

Thompson on the otherhand is part of the young squad of Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings. Amer consider his All Star selection this year as a blessing since he gets to play with his Davaoeno friends Simon and Thompson.

The fiery guard of the Bolts is currently leading his team in scoring among locals with 16 points per game.

Davao City Elementary Football Team Off To A Great Start In 2017 Palaro


The dream of the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) elementary football team to successfully defend its crown in the ongoing Palarong Pambansa 2017 at St. Anthony College in Antique is off to a great start.

Davraa made a good showing in its first two games in the tournament by winning their first game and getting a draw on its second game. The Davao City based squad started their title retention bid on a good note by blasting Calabarzon 3-0 behind the two goals of Jhojie Fernandez.

Emmanuel Logorio also added another goal to help the team win and frustrate Calabarzon.
The team coached by  Rey Henry "Ewee" De Leon also scored a scoreless draw on its second game against Mimaropa.

The Davraa secondary football team is also playing well in the Palaro after they eked out a 2-2 draw against  Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR) courtesy of two goals from team captain Justin Luis Uy of Ateneo de
Davao University at the University of Antique. The secondary Davaraa football team coached by Alex Adolfo are also made up of Enrico Miguel Magno, Jose Antonio Lopez, Miguel Royo, Gabriel Leyson, Joshua Joseph de Luna, Andrei Amir Amaikurut, Martin Antepuesto, Kyrt Anton Dimaandal of Ateneo; Jhon Mark Diamat of Emar Human and Environmental College; Angelo Paring of Rizal Memorial Colleges; Raymund Casona and Krist Kenneth Igpit of the University of Mindanao; Norjhon Gandarosa of Maco Atty. Orlando S Rimando National High School; Pachecko Bugas of Nabunturan Comprehensive National High School; Jumar Nino Quipit of Hagonoy National High School in Davao del Sur; Roel Jr. Zamorano of Mati National Comprehensive High School and Noel Capuyan, Jr. of Mintal Comprehensive High School.

Davao City Seeks 8th Place Finish In Palarong Pambansa

The Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) is aiming to land on the eight spot in the final standing of the 2017 Palarong Pambansa that will open on Sunday at the Binirayan Sports Complex in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique.

Having placed on the 10th overall in the 2016 Palarong Pambansa Davraa hopes to climb two more places this year. Seeing the teams competing this year, Davraa will still be happy if they end up in the ninth place this year.

The last time Davraa placed on the eight place was in 2014 when Palaro was held in Laguna.
last year, Davraa collected eight golds, 18 silvers and 19 bronzes in Albay Province. Department of Education (DepEd) spokesperson Jenielito Atillo said the 600 strong Davraa delegates have trained hard for the competition and he is confident they will perform well in Antique.

Southshield FC Wins 13th Del Monte Cup In Bukidnon


It is safe to say the Southshield Football Club is one of the best football club not only in Davao City but the rest of the Philippines as well.

This developed after Southshield emerged champion in one of the categories in the recently concluded national football tournament 2017 13th Del Monte Cup in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.
The 10 and under tim of Southshield won the 10 and under crown after beating the tough and favored Friends United from the National Capital Region 1-0 in the finals.

Southshield striker Yuan Jacob Guingguing provided the winning goal for the team who are mostly made up of students from Southpoint School in Datu Loho, Maa, Davao City. The visiting team from NCR who are selection of players from top schools in Metro Manila tried their best to equalize and beat Southshield but goal keeper Zyk Lopez frustrated their plans by swatting away all their shots.

The team coached by former University of Mindanao football player Roland Manabit are also composed of Luiz Digman, Niel Imperial, Charles Kenn Chiu, Anthony Elorde, James Gamete, James Delino, Art Romeo  Eroy and Ruzchen Villarmia.

Southshield reached the finals after beating team Ollies from Bukidnon in the semifinals.
Joeffrey Lopez, the proud father of Southshield goal keeper Zyk Lopez is very happy with their win since their decision to travel to Bukidnon and faced some of the tough football teams in the country has been rewarded with a championship.

Aside from the championship, the 8 and under team of Southshield was also able to grab third place in their category. The team coached by former UM player Greg Napuran are made up of Jonathan Puni, Eman Hawa, Dan Pañares, Chak Unson, John Narra, Alrich Dunay and Jack Esma.


The 10 and under team of Southshield Football Club lead by coach Roland Manabit ruled the  recently concluded national football tournament 2017 13th Del Monte Cup in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.

ACD Loses Vs. AdDu EScandor Cup

The four-game winning streak of Assumption College of Davao Warriors in the ongoing Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP)-sanctioned 4th Escandor Cup Inter-High School Basketball Tournament at the Gold Star Gym in Barangay Obrero, Davao City is now officially over.

The Warriors was beaten by arch-rival Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) Blue Knights 80-74 during their game on April 9.

Blue Knights guard Christian Bacalso scored 19 points to carry his team to victory and hand the previously unbeanten Warriors its first loss in the prestigious basketball tournament.

Blue Knights players Darren Manliguez and Francis Gabriel Escandor also added 14 and 10 points respectively in their team's morale boosting win against the Warriors. Meanwhile, BJ Sumugat and Cris Vistal carried the scoring load for the Warriors in a losing cause with an identical 16 points.

ACD Wins In Escandor Basketball Tourney


The Assumption College of Davao Warriors has improved its unbeaten record to four game after beating Jose Maria College (JMC) Kings 72-70, in the resumption of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP)-sanctioned 4th Escandor Cup Inter-High School Basketball Tournament Saturday at the Gold Star Gym in Barrio Obrero, Davao City.

Warriors go to guy BJ Sumugat scored 14 points including  the game-winning three-pointer in the final 1.3 seconds to carry his team to victory against the previously unbeaten Kings team.

Sumugat's teammates Arnold Heje and AJ Royo also added 13 and 10 points respectively in their morale boosting win. With their win, the warriors is set to face arch-rival Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) Blue Knights in their next game. Meanwhile, Addue demolished Philippine Women’s College, 113-40 in their game on the same day.

Davao City's Baser Amer Is Tagged As Next Jimmy Alapag In PBA

Davao City native Baser Amer has been tagged by some basketball experts as the next Jimmy Alapag in the Philippine Basketball Association.

Amer who is currently playing for Meralco Bolts is flying high in the ongoing PBA Commissioners Cup as he leads the playmaking duties for his team. The former player of Holy Child of Davao is not only dishing out assists for his teammates but also providing scoring for his team as well.

The inspired play of the Barangay Maa, Davao City player has lead Meralco to an impressive 4-1 record in the ongoing conference. No less than the recently retired PBA player Alapag, who happens to be the assistant coach of Meralco is impressed on the performance of Amer.

Alapag said the way Amer is playing he could even surpassed his achievements in the PBA and in international basketball play. “By the time when all things are said and done, I hope he can surpass what I was fortunate to do in my career,” Alapag said.

“At the end of the day, that's the nature of the game, you try your best when you're competing and you're training… after that, you look back and say, ‘hey I did pretty well,’” Alapag added.

Davao City's Southshield FC Targets 2017 Del Monte Cup Crown

One of the top football clubs in Davao City is set to compete in a  prestigious national football tournament for kids in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon over the weekend.

The Southshield Football Club is aiming to win the crown at the 2017 Del Monte Football Cup at Camp Philipps Football against some of the top football clubs in the Philippines.

Southshield who are made up mostly of students from Southpoint School in Datu Loho, Maa hopes is competing in three divisions 8, 10 and 12 under divisions.Having won two third place trophies and medals in the same tournament in 2015, Southshield is very confident of their chances this year due to their strong finishes in several local football tournaments in Davao City.

The team who will try to bring honor to the city will be lead by their three coaches Greg Napuran, Roland Manabit and AJ Adana, all former football players of the University of Mindanao. To prepare for the competition, the team has been training hard for the past weeks in order to compete well against some of bright football players in the country.

Davao City Rules Regional PRISAA Football Tournament

The Davao City football team are set to represent region 11 in the national finals of the National Private Schools Athletic Association Championships.

This developed after the Davao City football team which are made up of players from Rizal Memorial Colleges and University of Mindanao upset defending champion Davao del Norte's University of Mindanao Tagum College, 2-0, in the Regional Prisaa Meet best-of-three football
finals at the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Tagum City.

The team earlier beat Davao del Norte, 4-2, then followed it up with a similar victory in the second game to win the crown the ticket to represent the region in the national PRISAA finals. Assistant team manager Deo Maambong is ver pleased with the performance of his team made up of John Otong, Mark Paul Dayanan, Gregorio Zamora Jr.,  Khadaffy Biruar, Stephen Anotado, Geylord Onil Padernal, Archemides Ligaray, Noel Teves, Fatrick Pacot, Michael Sam Aradillos, Romeo Poblacion, Warren Ravanes, Krentz Orbigo, Alfonso Leonar and Rogie Hermida. Maambong said the team will train hard to bring home the bacon for Davao City in the PRISAA national finals.

ACD Wins SBP 3x3 Taluhan Basketball Tourney


THE Assumption College of Davao (ACD) were the big winners in the recent Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas 3x3 Tatluhan Basketball Tournament Regional Finals last April 1 at the Almendras Gym Davao Recreation Center.

The ACD boys and girls team won the championship against Atenep de Davao University Blue Knights to pocket the trophy and booked themselves a ticket for the  National Finals set on May 6 to 7 at the Robinson's Place in Manila. The ACD boys team who is the defending champion of the tournament beat the Blue Knights 21-14 behind the 12 points explosion of Alejandre Positos.

The team coached by Tristan Balino relied on their outside shooting to bring down the taller and favored Blue Knights.With their win, Balino vowed to train his team harder for them to win the national crown and avoid a similar semifinal ending for the team.

The ASD girls team also beat Addu in the championship 15-12. Gypsy Cañuto scored eight points to tow her team to victory in the agefest presented by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas in partnership with Bounty Fresh Chooks-to-Go. Meanwhile, The Davao Jones Academy took third place place after beating Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School.

Former HCDC Volleyball Player Gets Best Spiker Award At PSL

Former Holy Cross of Davao College volleyball player Mary Grace Berte was recently honored in the awarding ceremony of one of the biggest professional volleyball league in the Philippines.

Berte, currently playing for Foton Tornadoes was declared as the best outside spiker in the Philippine Super Liga (PSL) 2017 Invitational Conference. Berte was honored by PSL for being one of the top players in the blossoming volleyball league.

The Davaoena also helped Foton to a third place finish in the PSL conference won by Kobe Shinwa University. Before becoming a professional volleyball player, Berte helped Holy Cross win several volleyball titles in the city and nearby places.

Southpoint Grabs 2 Trophies In 80th Araw ng Dabaw Football Festival


The Southpoint School of Davao won two second place finishes in the recent 80th Araw ng Dabaw Football Festival at the Tionko Football field.

The 12 and under team of Southpoint, a school in Datu Loho, Maa, Davao City fell short in the championship round against Crocs 0-2 to finish first runner up in their division. The team coached by Angelo Adana, a former university of Mindanao football player are composed of  Gian Lacerna, Hendrich Denila, Adrian Elarmo, Gerrado Corronado, Karl Sumampong, Simone Guerrero,
AJ Guingguing, Luiz Herrera, Gelo Lacerna, Rhian Dordas, Duayne Morales, and CJ Cabigas.

The 10 and under team of Southpoint also finished second after they lose to Rover 0-2 in their championship match. The team coached by Ronald Manabit are made up of Charles Kenn Chiu, Zyke Lopez, Luiz Digman, Rythm Demecillo, Anthony Elorde, Jian Goyonan, Yuan Guingguing, Art Eroy, Niel Imperial, Kristof Madrid, and James Delino.


The 10 and under team of Southpoint lead by their coach Roland Manabit are all smiles after finishing second in the recent  80th Araw ng Dabaw Football Festival at the Tionko Football field.
