10 call center companies are set to join volleyfest in Davao City

After basketball, 10 call center companies in Davao City will fight it out in the Davao Inter-BPO League (DIBL) Volleyball League Season 2 that will starts on June 17 at the Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) Gym.
Seven teams will compete in the men's contest and three teams will slug it out in the women's division this year.
Guesting before the weekly Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum held at the
Annex of SM City Davao,  DIBL commissioner Mark De Guzman said the champion team this year will get  P20,000 champion purse in the tournament sanctioned by Balibolista de Dabaw.
Among the teams competiting this year are last year's men and women divisions defending champion Alorica, Sutherland, Ibex, Teleperformance, Awesome OS, VXI and Flatworld.
Alorica's representative Jay Tuazon said their team will do their best to defend their crown this year.
The Alorica women's team and Sutherland Global volleybelles will usher the opening game that will be staged simultaneously with the match between Ibex and Flatworld Solutions men's division at 9:00 a.m.

Davis Cup veteran from Butuan City wins tennis tourney in Panabo City

A 38-year-old Davis Cup veteran from Butuan City has used his vast professional tennis experience to rule the  2nd Mayor James Gamao Cup National Invitational Tennis Championship at the Panabo City twin courts in Panabo City, Davao del Norte last June 16.
Johnny Arcilla beat 18-year-old fast rising tennis star John Bryan Otico of Maramag City, Bukidnon  6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to win the national tennis tournament organized by the For the Love of Tennis (Flot) Group of Merco president Anton Ferrazzini.
The win is extra-sweet for Arcilla since he was able to withstand his shoulder injury to beat the youthful Otico who beat him in the second set.
Arcilla leaned on his service aces and consistent volleys to prevail over Otico in their match.
Despite his defeat, Otico is still happy because he and his University of the East partner Rolly John Saga won the doubles event in the tournament that offers P125,000 total cash prizes to the winners.
Otico-Saga survived bea  Francis Casey Alcantara and Jan Godfrey Seno, 7-6, 7-6, in the championship match.

Tagum City lady cops wins Beach Valley Tourney in Cagayan


Two police officers from Tagum City Police Office continue to make waves in beach volleyball competition.
PO1s Lot Catubag and Karen Quilario recently won the Beach Volleyball Republic International Santa Ana Open in Sta. Ana, Cagayan last June 10.
Catubag and Quilario beat  Iloilo's DM Demontaño and Jackie Estoquia  21-14, 21-14 to win the championship with a spotless record in the international beach volleyball tournament.
With their win, the two police officer won a trophy and $3,500 cash prize in the two-day tournament partcipated in by some of the top beach volleyball players in Asia.
Catubag and Quilario, who made it to the Round of 12 of the recent FIVB World Tour Manila Open, followed up their successful BVR national championship in Dagupan a few months ago by playing smart under difficult conditions.
Catubag and Quilario started the final day by overpowering Singapore Merlion's Kelly Yuen and Huang Zihui, 21-10, 21-15, to go perfect in Pool B at 3-0. 
The two police officers were very happy with their win and they vowed to train harder to win more tournaments this year.

Maa Elemetary boys wins sepak takraw tourney in Carmen, Davao del Norte


The elementary sepak takraw players from Barangay Maa, Davao City won the recent 50th Araw ng Carmen Sepak Takraw Invitational Tournament that in Carmen, Davao del Norte.
The team coached by Ruel Yataza beat  Palarong Pambansa 2018 silver medalist Panabo City Team A, 21-16, 19-21, 15-12, in the finals of regu event to win the championship.
Yataza is very happy with their win against the favored Panab City Team A team.
He said his team who are composed of Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) and Batang Pinoy players really trained hard before the tournament.
The champion team are made up of Bryan Jay Gernale, Jieremy Anino, Janmark Tamor, Jimboy Oracion and Christian Jay Manggubat.
In the high school level, the Maa National High School got the fourth place with players Adrian and Datu Ken Interino, Stephen Dave Kilayco and Justine Keth Celerinos.

Davao City's Southshield Football Club wins two football championship crowns in Butuan City

The visiting Southshield Football Club of Davao City won two championship crowns in the recent Balangay Footfest at the Remedios T. Romualdo Football field in Butuan City.
The eight and 10 and under teams of Southshield beat other top football teams in Mindanao to rule their respective divisions in the national football tournament.
The 10 and under team of Southshield beat the home team Remedios T Romualdo School 2-0 to win the crown.
Yuan Guinguing scored the twin goals for the team on a good pass from Jian Goyonan.
The team reached the finals after beating Monte Carlo football club from Cagayan de Oro City 1-0 in a thrilling penalty shoot-out.
Yuan Guingguing once again scored the lone goal for the team in their semifinal win.
The other members of the team coached by Ronald Manabit are the following: Eman Hawa, Ahlrich Dunay,  Ruzchen Villarmia, Karlos Donado,Kael Morata, King Elorde, Jasmine Librado, Kaki Elorde, Luiz Digman and Anthony Elorde.
The Southshield 10 and under team also won most of the awards as Donado was chosen as most valuable player in the tournament, Guingguing was also picked as best striker and Villarmia as best goal keeper.
Southshield FC president Carlo Chiu is very happy with their win since they were able to bring honor to Davao City with their two championship crowns.

The players and parents of the Southshield 10 and under team were all smiles after winning the championship in their division in the recent Balangay Footfest in Butuan City.

John Patrick Tierro admit defending tennis crown in Panabo is hard

Defending champion Patrick John Tierro believes defending his crown this year will be hard due to the presence of top professional tennis players who will compete in the 2nd Mayor James Gamao Cup National Invitational Tennis Championship 2018 in Panabo City, Davao del Norte.
Tierro believes aside from the  Philippines' top-ranked men's tennis player Jeson Patrombon other participants in the national tennis tournament on June 13-16 will also give him a tough challenge this year.
Despite the odds, Tierro is confident he can still retain his crown this year.
Also participating in the tennisfest are  regular campaigners Johnny Arcilla and Vicente Alberto Anasta,
ranked third and fifth, respectively, in the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta) men's singles,John Mari Altiche, Kim Ivor Saraza, Fritz Chris Verdad, John Jeric
Accion, Leander Lazaro, Ronard Joven, Dheo Talatayod and John Bryan Otico.
The tournament which offers P150,000 cash prize is sponsored by  Mercantile Corporation (Merco) and Selecta and organized by For the Love of Tennis (Flot)
Group in cooperation with the city government of Panabo.
Those who will watch the tournament will be in for a treat as  free Selecta ice cream will be
given to spectators and participants in the entire duration of the match.

UM Tagum wins Wins 2018 Rebisco Volleyball League Regional Finals

For the second straight year the visiting  University of Mindanao (UM) Tagum City ruled the 2018 Rebisco Volleyball League Regional Finals girls 18 and below tournament last une 4 at Martin Hall of Addu Jacinto campus.
UM Tagum beat the host Ateneo de Davao University (Addu), 16-25, 25-16, 23-25, 25-19, 15-12, in the finals to successfully defend their crown.
Wih their win, UM Tagum will represent Southern Mindanao in the National Finals in November at the Ynares Sports Complex in
Pasig City.
The team coached by Michael Angelo Paulo also won  P25,000 worth of Mikasa equipment, Rebisco giveaways, shirts from Rain or Shine, trophy and medals.
UM Tagum's Breyanna Kathleen Torejos Sasil won most valuable player (MVP) for the second straight year for leading her team to vicory against ADDU.
Paulo said the team will practice hard to surpass their fifh place finish in the national finals last year.
He said they also plan to get some reinforcements from ADDU to become more competitive in the naional finals.
Some special awards were also given to promising players in the tournament such as  Addu's Takako Fujimoto (best setter), Kyla Codora (best first outside attacker),
Janna Cane (best second middle blocker) and Keanna Adalo (best libero), UM Tagum's Maxene Joyce Tayag (best second outside
attacker) and Bianco Ordoña (best first middle blocker) and Elizabeth Cabatingan of Cor Jesu College of Digos (best opposite attacker).
Meanwhile, the visiting Cor Jesu College of Digos City took the third place after beating Sto. Niño National High School, 25-22 and 25-23, in their battle for third.

Body builder from Maa, Davao City places 5th in World Body Building Contest


A 30-year-old body buildern from Dampa, Magtuod, Maa, Davao City has won fifth place in the recent international body building contest held in IC3 Convention Center in Cebu City.
Lionelo Sigue got a ffth place trophy in the International NAC World 2018 Championships last June 2.
Sigue beat  10 other international competitors which came all the way from France, Malaysia, India and Iran in the   class four body building category.
The Davaoeno is very pleased with his achievement since it is his first internatinal body building competition.
He said making it to the top six in such prestigious tournament is already a huge reward for him.
Sigue got the chance to compete in the tournament after he won one of the categories in the Muscle Beach Asia 2018 last May 27 in Subic, Zambales.
Sigue of  Pulse85 Fitness Play Ground beat 59 other body builder all over the Philippines to win the  novice division of the national body building contest.

VXI Global wins Davao Inter-BPO League 2018 basketball tournament

After three years of waiting, the VXI Global has finally nailed down the championship crown after they beat  Awesome OS in the Davao Inter-BPO League (DIBL) 2018 basketball tournament's championship Sunday at the  Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) Event Center.
VXI Global coached by Jess Evangelio beat Awesome 0S 50-33 to win their first crown in the basketball tournament featuring some of the call center companies operating in Davao City.
VXI got solid 17 points scoring from Kenn Te to win the crown against Awesome OS.
Due to his game long brilliance, Te who also got five rebounds and three blocks recieved the finals’ most valuable player (MVP) award.
Raphael Romeo Nayve also added nine points in their win.
The other members of the champion team are the following: Cyril Almeria, Mark Julius Acuzar, John Trico Dablo, Kristian Rabor, Jan Ronald Delmo,
Dave Floyd Cadano, Adolf Gemarino, Rencel Cedie Dablo, Jesrael Alcain, Miko Morales, Jayson Luciano, Alner Muarip, Joshua Presto, Anton Dela Cruz and Peter Concubierta.
Evangelio is very happy with their win and he thanked the VXI management for the all-out support to the team.
The team hopes to retain their crown in the next DIBL basketball tournament.

Panabo City will host national tennis tourney sponsored by Merco

The second edition of the biggest professional tennis tournament in Mindanao is ready to kick off on June 13 to 16 in Panabo City, Davao del Norte.
