Richard Arigo Wins Datba Weekly Qualifying At SM Lanang


Veteran Davao City bowler Richard Arigo is now richer by P1,000 after winning the  Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association (Datba) Weekly Qualifying Bowling Tournament held at the
SM Lanang Bowling Center over the weekend.
After four games, Arigo scored 905 pinfalls to win the bowlfest and earn himself a slot in the monthly finals.
Taking the second place in the tournament organized by Datba is Jans Bernas who won P600 after scoring 850 pinfalls.
The third place went to Jonix Allawan who won P400 after scoring 805 pinfalls.

Baser Amer Makes It To 12 Man Philippine Gilas Team

Davao City native professional basketball player Baser Amer has been selected as one of the 12 members of the Gilas Pilipinas basketball team that will compete in various international basketball tournaments this year.
Amer, the starting point-guard of the Meralco Bolts in the Philippine Basketball Association has been picked by Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes as one of the three point guards of the team alongside Mike Tolomia and Kiefer Ravena.
Amer and his teammates are set to compete in the Southeast Asian Games and Jones Cup this year.
A resident of Barangay Maa, Davao City, Amer is very happy to be given the chance to play for the country.
Amer said his selection to the pool is a great way for him to train harder after the Bolts failed to make it to the semifinals of the PBA Comissioners Cup.
The sophomore guard is playing superb thus year as he leads his team in scoring among locals in the PBA Comissioners Cup.
Due to his brilliance some basketball experts even consider him as the next Jimmy Alapag of the PBA.



4 Teams Make It To Semis Of Inter-BPO Basketfest

Defending champion Teleperformance and three other teams have made it to the semifinals after they successfully defeated their opponents of the quarterfinals of the Davao Inter-BPO League (DIBL) Invitational Basketball Tournament held at the Montaña Recreation and Fitness Center over the weekend.

TP survived a tough scare from Focusinc with a come from behind 75-71 win in overtime through the heroics of Levi Ochate. Ochate provided the winning basket for TP and end up with 22 points in the game. With their win, TP is set to face Offsourcing Philippines (OS) in the semi-finals set on July 2.
OS got the semifinal slot after beating Iqor, 68-53.

Nogine Bonajos scored 22 baskets to carry OS to the semifinals against TP. The other semifinal game pits VXI Robinsons vs VXI SM. VXI Robinsons earlier beat Conectys, 58-52 in the quarterfinals.
VXI SM for its part beat Sutherland 79-64  in overtime to reach the semifinals in the tournament sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas.

Davao Aguilas Settles For A Draw Vs. Ilocus United In Tagum City Match


The inspired home team Davao Aguilas has failed in its quest to snatch its first win in their second meeting with the  Ilocos United  in the Philippines Football League at the Davao Del Norte Stadium in Tagum City, Davao del Norte on Sunday.

The Aguilas settled for a goalless draw against the tough Ilocos football squad infront of its massive home crowd. Playing infront of its fans, the Aguilas started hot with Omar Khan creating problems for the Ilocos defense out wide. The visitors managed to find their footing midway through the
match. Angelo Marasigan had some fine shots, even forcing Marko Trkulja to make some stretch saves. Davao managed to get the lion’s share of possession but their chances were few, the closest coming from a Nate Burkey free kick in the 72nd minute. The veteran midfielder whipped a low ball past the wall before Baba Sampana made the last second save.

The Aguilas and Ilocus settled for a 1-1 draw in theif initial game in  Bantay, Ilocos on the opener of the league. Davao snagged its fourth point after seven games. Ilocos on the other hand ended its five game losing run to claim its second point, also in seven games.

San Miguel Davao Aguilas Faces Ilocus On Sunday In Tagum City


The fired up San Miguel Davao Aguilas Football Club (FC) is seeking to notch its first ever win when they collide against the dangerous Ilocos United FC on Sunday in the resumption of the Philippine Football League (PFL) at the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex field in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
Getting a draw against powerhouse FC Meralco Manila (2-2) on June 22, the Aguilas is confident they can finally barged into the win column in the premier professional football league in the Philippines.
Hoping to a get a huge support from their fans, the Aguilas are confident they can beat Ilocos in their second meeting after their initial encounter in Ilocos ended in a draw.
Guesting before the weekly Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at The Annex of SM City Davao on Thursday, coaching staff Melchor Anzures said the play of the team is already working and it almost lead to a win against Meralco.
A native of Davao City, Anzures said his team is confident they can bring down Ilocos come Sunday.
The Australian head coach of Aguilas Gary Philipps for his part said their recent draw against Meralco has boosted the morale and confidence of his team.
"I think the bigger picture is for us, we grew as a team, we got back into the game and we showed a lot of spirit," he said.

RMC Football Tourney Kicks Off On July 29


Medals and trophies are up for grabs in the 1st Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) Football Festival on July 29 at the Tionko field in Davao City.
Some 100 football teams all over Mindanao are set to compete in the footballfest sanctioned by the Davao Regional Football Association (DRFA).
The football tournament was organized by f RMC chairman Leo Magno and vice president Ernesto Raphael Robillo to provide to further promote football in this side of the Philippines in the grassroots level.
The categories in the 7-A-Side format bootfest are under-six (U6), U7, U8, U9, U10, U12, U13, U18, and men's open and
women's open.
Teams who are interested to join needs to pay the registration fees P800 (grassroots) P1,000 (youth
and senior).
Aside from the regular winners in the different categories, a medal for the  most valuable player will also be given.

Panabo Boxing Champ Will Defend Title In Undercard Of Pacman Bout In Australia

A 25-year-old boxing champion from Panabo City, Davao del Norte is set to defend his title in the undecard of the much awaited anny Pacquiao-Jeff Horn clash set on July 2 at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia.
International Boxing Federation (IBF) World super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas will defend his title for the second time against dangerous  mandatory challenger Teiru Kinoshita of Japan.
Ancajas last fought in Macau on January 29 against Mexican boxer Jose Alfredo Rodriguez in his successful first title defense.
Managed by Pacquiao in the MP promotions, Anjacas is very happy and excited to be fighting alongside his idol.
Ancajas said since his first title defense he had been training hard to ensure he can keep his boxing belt for a long-time.
The Panaboan boxing champion said he is dedicating his bout to the Filipinos and his  wife Ruth and their two sons Jhinijie Kyrie and JJ Kyle.



Cutay Won Datba Weekly Tourney At NCCC B3

Veteran bowler Nilo Cutay captured the championship in the Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association (Datba) Weekly Qualifying Bowling Tournament held at the NCCC Mall Davao B3 Center Lanes over the weekend.

After four games Cutay scored 834 pinfalls to win the qualifying tournament and earn a lot in the monthly finals. Aside from the trophy and slot in the monthly finals, Cutay also won 1,100 cash prize in the bowlfest organized by Datba.

The second place went to Datba president Ramsey Tancontian who won P700 after scorng 823 pinfalls. The third place went to Ronald Martin who won P400 after scoring 807 pinfalls.

Davao City Bets Won Big In Tagum City Arnis Tourney

A team of arnisadors from Davao City has a successful campaign in the recent 4th Tagum City Sacred Warriors Arnis Tournament held at the Robinsons Place in Tagum City.
The Davao City team carrying the name Kapatirang Doble Olisi (KDO) under chief instructor Mario Palazuelo won a total of five gold medals, seven silvers and three bronzes.
The team from Davao City beat bets from  Digos City, Compostela Valley and Tagum City in their wins.
Those who collected gold medals for Davao City in the tournament are . Amina Madid and Ivy Jane Anduyo from Father
Bustamante National High School (FBNHS), Czar Elfred Corsame of Precious International School of Davao (PISD),
Ramon Lee of the Davao City National High School (DCNHS) and Ariel Tacugue of KDO.
Madid won the girls’ bantamweight division as Anduyo ruled the extra lightweight class.
Corsame and Lee ruled the boys’ pinweight and extra lightweight events, respectively. Tague won over his rivals in
the boys half light weight division.
Those who pocketed silver medals were
Joshua Magno of Don Julian Elementary School (DJE), Dapne May Bactong of DCNHS,
Hazel Ann Calubag of University of Immaculate Concepcion (UIC), Dolland Feb Apas of DCNHS, John Carl Aranggoso of

The tournament is important for the Davao City team since it serve as  tune-up for the city's arnisadors seeing action in the upcoming Batang Pinoy 2017 Mindanao
Qualifying and Philippine National Games.

Inter BPO Basketfest All-Star Game On June 18


Before the playoff battle, an All-Star game will be held in the ongoing Davao Inter-BPO League (DIBL) on Sunday  at the Montaña Recreation and Fitness Center, Incorporated along
Dacudao Avenue in Agdao, Davao City.

Guesting before the weekly Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum held at The Annex events center of SM City Davao, DIBL commissioner Mark de Guzman revealed aside from the regular All Star game a three-point shoot-out will also be held on the same day. De Guzman said the  All-Star game will be the usual one wherein we will select the best players in each bracket and let them play together against the opposite.

He said the three-point shooting contest is special since it seeks to solicit funds to help t Callbox player Patrick Lapus who suffered from a knee ACL tear. De Guzman said after the All-Star game the playoff will officially start on June 25 consisting of eight teams.

He said the eight teams Teleperformance, VXI Robinsons, Iqor, Sutherland, Focusinc, VXI SM, Offsourcing Philippines and Conectys will play the knockout quarterfinals before proceeding to the crossover semifinals.

Inter BPO Basketfest Goes Playoff Mode On June 25

The ongoing Davao Inter-BPO League (DIBL) Brotherhood Sports at the Montaña Recreation and Fitness Center, Incorporated along Dacudao Avenue in Agdao, Davao City will shift to playoff mode on June 25.

Some of the teams who gathered enough wins in the elimination round will fight it out in the playoffs to win the championship crown in the tournament sanctioned by  Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP). So far the teams who will advance to the playoffs are the following: Conectys who earlier beat Convergys in their last game 68-52.

Nash Ignacio scored 40 points to carry Conectys to the win against Convergys. Defending champion Teleperformance also advance to the next round after beating Next BPO Solutions, 66-56.
VXI Robinsons also made it to the playoffs after beating Focusinc 44-39.

Also making it to the next round are VXI SM and Outsourcing Philippines (OS) who both placed second and third in bracket B, respectively. Iqor also made it to the playoffs after beating Sutherland, 50-49.

Panabo Boxing Champ Loses In South Africa


The unbeaten run of Panabo City, Davao del Norte boxing champion Jay-Ar Inson is now officially over.

This developed after Inson loses his non-title bout against African boxer Thulani Mbenge via unanimous decision in the welterweight division clash last June 10, at the Emperor's Palace, Kempton Park, South Africa.

Inson the current World Boxing Organization (WBO) Pacific welterweight champion is humble in his defeat saying his opponent is the better boxer in their bout. With his defeat, Inson dropped his record to  13 wins (nine knockouts) and one loss while Mbenge kept its unbeaten card in 11 outings.

Before losing to the African, Inson scored a seventh round stoppage of Ryota Yada in December last year in Japan. The fast rising boxer is managed by Nonoy Neri.

Davao del Norte Won Chess Tourney In Davao City

The Davao del Norte Drem Team has emerged as champion in the recent 16th Acas Palero Moulic (APM) Dalawahan Team Chess title held at the Damosa Market Basket in Lanang, Davao City.

The Davao del Norte Dream team composed of Jayson Salubre and Rodel Alsado won P5,000 cash prize after scoring 9.5 points in the six-round Swiss System format chessfest. The second place in the chessfest went to Bull Cavz who won P3,000 after scoring nine points in the chessfest.

The Buzz Cavz team are made up of Jay Bulicatin and Gerald Cavan The third place went to Margin Knight Team who are composed of Gino Angelo Asuncion and Mary Israel Palero. The Margin Knight Team won P2,000 as cash prize in the chessfest.

Tongo Wins NCCC Weekly Bowling Tourney


Young Davao city bowler Bam Tongo has won the  Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association (Datba) Weekly Qualifying Bowling Tournament at the NCCC Mall B3 Center Lanes over the weekend.

After four games Tongo scored 810 pinfalls to win the bowlfest and P700 purse for the champion. The second place went to Oslec Garcia who won P400 after scoring 776 pinfalls.

The third place went to Tongo's father lawyer Rodrigo Tongo who scored 766 pinfalls. The elder Tongo won P300 for his win. The bowlfest is organized by Datba for the promising bowlers in Davao City.

El Grande Multi-Purpose Cooperative Wins Debut In Cataluan Grande Basketfest



The Ed Grande Multi-Purpose Cooperative (EGMPC) and Pag-ibig Heights won their initial games in the ongoing FKA AgriChemical Corporation Catalunan Grande Summer League (CGSL) Basketball Tournament over the weekend at the Monte Maria Village Covered Court.

Eugene Labor scored 17 points to carry EGMPC to a lopsided 80-45 win against Paseo Grande in the tournament sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).Danny Bigcas cored 10 points to lead Paseo in a losing cause against EGMPC.

Unlike EGMC, Pag-ibig Heights won their first game of the tournament in a heart-pounding 61-58 score against  GJCC Calibrators.Conor Cortez scored 20 points highlighted by two successfive three-pointer to help Pag--Ibig Heighs win its debut game.

Dan Marata meanwhile scored 16 points to lead the Calibrators who lead in the first three quarters of the game in a losing cause.A three point contest was also held in the opening program of the tournament wherein Andre Buco of MAD GAUS scored eight three pointers to take the three point king crown.

The tournament is sponsored by Tanduay Athletics under the supervision of Jerrold Plaza, The Royal Mandaya Hotel,  Davies Paint Reinvented, Bearing Center and Machinery Inc., El Grande Multi-Purpose Cooperative and Pantoja Marketing.

Baser Amer Says Jason Castro Match-Up Drove Him To Perform Well Vs TNT


The strong desire not to go on vacation early and a show his stuff to a long-time idol drove Meralco point-guard Baser Amer to explode to a career high 32 points on Wednesday night.

Amer, a resident of Barangay Maa, Davao City carried his team to victory against Talk and Text in game 2 of their best of three quarterfinals series 103-100. The sophomore PBA guard said he is challenge not to allow TNT to end their PBA season early which is why he did his best to score big for his team.

He added that the chance to play toe to toe with TNT superstar point-guard Jayson Castro also gave him added motivation to play big for his team. “Ayaw ko rin magbakasyon. Kung natalo kami today, maghihintay na naman kami next conference. Nakakasawa na,” said Amer who made 11 of his 21 shots on top of six rebounds and four assists.

“Gusto ko talaga, yung main target namin is makapunta ng semis then bahala na kung anong mangyayari,” he added. The former player of Holy Child Academy is currenty the leading local scorer for Meralco in ongoing Comissioner's Cup.

Tongo Wins Bowling Tourney At NCCC B3


Young bowler Bam Tongo is now richer by P700 after winning the weekly Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association Qualifying Bowling Tournament at the NCCC Mall Davao B3 Center Lanes last June 6.

Aside from the cash prize, Tongo also gets a slot at the Datba monthly finals after scoring 822 pinfalls after four games. The second place went to Rodrigo Tongo, the lawyer father of Bam who won P400 after scoring 821 pinfalls.

The third place went to Yule Tamlimco who won P300 after scoring 795 pinfalls.

Top Sepak Takraw Teams To Compete In Davao City Tourney

Some of the top sepak takraw teams in the elementary and secondary levels of Davao City are set to compete in the Inter-Secondary and Inter-Elementary Sepak Takraw Tournament  on June 24 at the Ma-a Central Elementary School gym in Davao City.

The tournament is part of the 80th anniversary celebration of Barangay Maa, Davao City and offers P5,000 top prize to the champion in the secondary level and P4,000 to the champion in the elementary level. The tournament hopes to promote athletic and competence
through healthy and fair competition as well as to provide an avenue for interaction among students, teachers and coaches from different schools.

Those interested schools who wants to join has until June 21 to submit their entries. Aside from cash prizes a trophy also await the winners of the tournament. The organizers will also give special awards to the  most valuable player, best setter, best tekong, best spiker and best coach.

Unbeaten Panabo Boxing Champ Will Fight In South Africa On June 10


A 26-year-old boxing champion from Panabo City, Davao del Norte hopes to extend his unbeaten streak to 14 games when faces a tough South African boxer in South Africa on June 10.

Wold Boxing Organization (WBO) Pacific welterweight champion Jay-Ar "The Hitman" Inson is set to face African boxer Mbenge Thulane in a non-title match. Inson who is managed by Nonoy Neri has a clean slate of 13 wins with nine knockouts.

The Panabo City native will face a big challenge against Thulane who has 10 wins all by way of knockouts. Despite the odds, Inson is very confident he can beat the South African and fight more bouts abroad.

Inson last fought in December and won via a technical knockout against Japanese boxer Ryota Yada.

TP, VXI Robinsons Remain Unbeaten In BPO Basketball Tourney

Defending champion Teleportance (TP) and VXI Robinsons share the top spot at five wins without a single loss in the ongoing Davao Inter-BPO League Basketball Tournament held at the Montaña Recreation and Fitness Center, Incorporated along Dacudao Avenue in Agdao, Davao City.

Both TP and VXI Robinsons won over the weekend to barged into the quarterfinals of the tournament officiated by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP). TP relied on the 22 points of reigning  most valuable player (MVP) Lou Gracilla to bring down Alorica 54-39.

With their loss Alorica dropped to 3-3. VXI Robinsons for its part beat Ibex 64-53 behind the 13 points, three rebounds and two steals of Jayson Luciano.

With its defeat, Ibex dropped to 1-4. In the other games,  Focusinc overcame Sutherland, 75-66, while Iqor clobbered Demand Science, 64-47.

Martin Wins Datba Weekly Bowlfest At NCCC B3

Davao City based bowler Leandro Sol Martin is now richer by P800 after winning the Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association (Datba) Weekly Qualifying Bowling Tournament at the NCCC Mall B3 Center Lanes over the weekend.

Aside from his cash prize, Martin also gets a slot in the monthlyu finals in the bowlfest organized by Datba. Martin won the crown after scoring 817 pinfalls after four games to edge out second and third placers Yule Tanlimco and Nestor Burgos.

Tanlimco won P400 after scoring 811 pinfalls. Burgos for his part won P300 after scoring 775 pinfalls.

Father's Day Bowlfest At NCCC B3


Those hard working fathers in Davao City who love bowling are set to participate in the  Father and Child Bowling Tournament on June 17 at the NCCC Mall Davao B3 Center Lanes.

The bowlfest aims to make Father's Day special to all fathers who love bowling. Guesting before the weekly Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum held at the NCCC Mall Davao B3 Center Lanes, NCCC B3 officer-in-charge for operations Antonio Venculado Jr. said the bowlfest seeks to make fathers enjoy their special day with their kids.

Vinculado however said they will onbly allow 20 pairs (father and child) to participate in the bowlfest. Those who wants to participate just need to present a NCCC B3 receipt coming from any of its services including Xbox, billiards, table tennis or bowling receipts at the NCCC Mall Davao B3 Center Lanes.

What makes this bowlfest extra special is the fact that walk-in participants may also play at the sidelines. The champion is set to recieve P5,000 while the next two placers will receive P3,000 and P2,000, respectively.

The pair who has the most number of supporters during the game will also get a total of P2,000 worth of gift certificates.

Digos City Native Scottie Thompson Is Tagged As Ginebra's Most Popular Player Today

Ginebra Gin Kings coached Tim Cone consider former Agro Sailor Scottie Thompson as the team's most popular player today.

Cone said many Ginebra fans love Thompson because of his competitive nature at 23 years old. The many time PBA champion said teh sophomore guard has a long way to go in his PBA career.

In the ongoing PBA Comissioner's Cup the 6'1 guard leads all local players in rebounding at 8.3 per game. The Digos City native guard has better percentage in rebounds than June Mar Fajardo of San Miguel and teammate Japheth Aguilar.

This early, Cone consider Thompson as one of the best rebounding guards in the history of the PBA.

Southshield FC Wins 4 Trophies In Pulong Duterte Footbal Cup

The Southshield Football Club once again proved they are one of the top football teams in Davao City after they win four trophies in the recent Pulong Duterte Football Cup at Crocodile Park, Diversion road, Maa, DAvao City.

The 12 and under team of Southshield emerged as champion in the category after beating Rover in the finals 1-0. Southshield FC striker Gian Carlos Lacerna scored on a header from a pass from Karl Sumampong to carry his team to victory against the tough Rover squad.

The team coached by AJ Adana are composed of Adrian Elarmo, Hendrich Rad Denila, Carlos Angelo Lacerna, Simone Axelle Guerrero, Gerardo Coronado, Rhyan Dordas, Raymond Greg Pahuyo, Louiz Gabryle Herrera, Andrei Joshua Guingguing and Kiefer Luzon. Carlo Giovanni Lacerna, the vice president of Southshield FC and father of Gian is very proud of his son and the entire team because of their victory against Rover.

The elder Lacerna who is also a budding tennis player credited the team's win to their hard-work and determination. The nine under and 11 and under teams of Southshield FC also won second places in their category.

The nine under team coached by former University of Mindanao football player Roland Manabit are made up of Karlos Donado, Jian Goyonan, Anthony Elorde, Rhythm Demecillo, Ruzchen Villarmia, Luiz Digman, AJ Dunay and Yuan Guingguing. The 11 under team also coached by Manabit are composed of Charles Kenn Chiu, Karl Sumampung, Rhyan Dordas, Gerardo coronado, Zyk Lopez, Art Eroy, Andrei Joshua Guingguing, Carlos Angelo Lacerna and Devon John Kierulf.

The seven and under team of Southshield FC also got the third place in their division.
The team coached by former UM football player Greg Napuran are made up of Dan Pañares, Chac Unson, Jonathan Puno, Myke Abrinica, Katrina Angela Trinidad, Angelina Lacerna, Adrian Khan, Vince Sungkip, and Matthew Mendoza.
