Davao City ends Calabarzon's reign on women's basketball in PRISAA 2018



It took a team from Davao City to stop the women's basketball dynasty of Calabarzon Region in the National Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa).
Dava City represented by players from the University of Mindanao beat the five-time champion  Calabarzon Region 69-68 in their thrilling championship game in the PRISAA 2018 women's basketball tournament at the Dauis court in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
Calabarzon is made up of the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon.
The team coached by Crisanthemum Sarabia relied on the hot shooting of guard and most valuable player awardee  Disney Jean Lampara who netted 21 points to shock Calabarzon in their game.
Judy Ann Enalim also added 16 points 10 of whom scored in the fourth quarter in their win against Calabarzon.
The other members of the champion team were the following: Josie Bajao, Richyl Cabarubias, Anelyn Climaco, Cherry Ann Diagbel, Joan Cate Dosdos,Analine Duran, Judy An Maquiso, Kimberly Renegado, Maryville Villaflor and Vina Violanda.
Sarabia is very happy and relieved in their win saying it took eight years for Davao region to finally nail down the crown in women's basketball.


Davao City baseball team wins grandslam in 2018 PRISAA in Bohol

After many tries the University of Mindanao bannered Davao City baseball team finally hit the grandslam or three straight championship in the National Private School Athletic Association (Prisaa) Games 2018 men's baseball contest held at the Maribojoc Field, Mribojoc, Bohol.
The Davao City baseball team coached by  Vincent Ryan Sarabia demolished Cagayan Valley Region 12-1 to win the crown and achieve the rare three-peat after three tries in the past.
Sarabia said after winning back to back championship in PRISAA national finals they always go for a grandslam but they always fail until this year.
In the finals, Jester Dave Mansalayao was named most valuable player (MVP) and was hailed as the best pitcher and most home run awardee.
Lowie Jhon Chan, last year's MVP, was named best hitter.
The other members of the champion team were the following:Edgardo Baniog, Rodnel Dalor, Vince Agmata, Alnyl Jay Capapas, Darel Dave Olaivar, Joshua Miguillan, Johnwil Cadotdot, Maurice Franz MaƱalac, Eldie Butulan and Anthonie Libagan.

Tagum City lady Cops successfully defend national beach volleyball crown in Dagupan City, Pangasinan

Two young lady police officers from Tagum City Police Office has successfully defended their Beach Volleyball Republic National Championship crown in Dagupan City Pangsinan in a dominating fashion.
PO1s Karen Quilario and Lourdilyn Catubag successfully defended their crown without any single loss in the prestigious national beach volleyball tournament which features some of the top beach volleyball players in the Philippines.
Quilario and Catubag  swept the group stage, 3-0, before making quick work of Charo Soriano and Bea Tan in the women's division semifinals, 21-12, 21-14.
The Davao police officers then repeated over Iloilo's Jackie Estoquia and DM Demontano in the Final, scoring a convincing 21-10, 21-14 victory.
It's the second straight BVR National title for Catubag and Quilario after also handling business in 2017 in Cagayan. Soriano and Tan won third place.

Davor swimmer adds another gold in 2018 PRISAA swimming contest in Tagbilaran City, Bohol

A promising 17-year-old male swimmer from Lambajon, Davao Oriental ended his National Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) Games 2018 at the Victoriano B. Tirol Sports Complex in Tagbilaran City, Bohol with another gold and a silver medal.
Jomarie Berja, a Palarong Pambansa veteran won the junior boys 200m breaststroke.
Berja along with  Blu Cabilete, Selwyn Rex Cirunay and George Karlo Paglinawan also won the junior boys 4x50 relay silver.
The  incoming Grade 11 student this coming school year at the Maryknoll School of Lambajon earlier won three gold medals in juniors 100-meter breaststroke, 400 individual medley (IM) and 4x50 medley relay events after taking the second spot in 200m freestyle.
The 4x50 medley relay team were made up of Selwyn Rex Cirunay, Alteddy Sumaoy and Blu Cabilete.
Meanwhile, Darlyn Rose Maramara successfully defended her titles in the karatedo competition Tuesday evening, April 24, winning two golds for Davao Region in the (Prisaa). Maramara, 18, a member of the Association for the Advancement of Karate (AAK) Davao and University of Mindanao, won the golds in the junior girls kata and junior girls -42kg kumite events which she first won on 2017 in Zambales.

Davao Region Wins 8 Golds In PRISAA National Finals In Tagbilaran City, Bohol

A promising 17-year-old male swimmer from Lambajon, Davao Orietal carried Davao region swimmers in a dominating performance in the ongoing National Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) Games 2018 at the Victoriano B. Tirol Sports Complex in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
Jomarie Berja, a Palarong Pambansa veteran collected  three golds and one silver in the

The incoming Grade 11 student this coming school year at the Maryknoll School of Lambajon, won the juniors 100-meter breaststroke, 400 individual medley (IM) and 4x50 medley relay
events after taking the second spot in 200m freestyle.
The 4x50 medley relay team were made up of Selwyn Rex Cirunay, Alteddy Sumaoy and Blu Cabilete.
Berja hopes to add the 200m breaststroke and 4x50 medley relay in his gold collection this week.
The great performance of Berja carried Davao region tankers to win  eight gold medals, eight silvers and nine bronzes in the swimming event.

Bigger stage to help drove Humanitarian to run as barangay councilor in Maa

The desire to help more people drove a 59-year-old father of 3 to run as councilor in Barangay Maa, Davao City this year.
Ricky Umbana is trying his luck for the second time to help more people in his barangay.
Umbana who use almost half of his life helping prisoners and his nighbors is hopeful the luck will shine on his side this year.
Umbana is confident with God's help he can win the baragay election race because his main intention in running is to serve more people in his barangay.
Recently,the Catholic group Couples for Christ in Davao City honored one of their long-time members for the award he recieve from the city government of Davao for outstanding work in the community.
The CFC in their gathering at the St. Francis seminary directed Umbana to stand up so their members can see him and be more inspired after he was awarded by Davao City mayor Sarah Duterte in 2012.
Umbana, a resident of Barangay Maa, Davao City got the award for his kind works to the prisoners inside the Davao City jail in Barangay Maa.
In 2012 Umbana, CFC and Gaward Kalinga were awarded by the city with a plaque for making a difference in the community for constructing houses for female prisoners inside the city jail.
Also awarded by the city that time were Davao Light and Power Company, NCCC, Dizon Farms, Davao City Water District among others.
No less than Davao City mayor Sarah Duterte bestowed the award to Umbana and the other awardees.
Umbana was a huge help in the contruction of houses inside the female detainees compound because he is the CFC Prison Ministry Coordinator since the year 2000.
Umbana has a deep heart for prisoners because he believes helping them could make them more happy and hopeful in life.


Davao City Takes 9th Spot In 2018 Palaro In Vigan, Ilocus Sur

The  Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Eagles has finished ninth among 17 competing regions in the just concluded 2018 Palarong Pambansa in Vigan, Ilocus Sur.
After the weeklong competition, Davraa was able to collect a total of 12 golds, 27 silvers and 28 bronzes.
The output is a smaller compared to our medal haul last year which is 22 golds, 25 silvers and 24 bronzes in Antique.
As expected the National Capital Region (NCR) defended its overall crown anew with 100 golds, 70 silvers and 50 bronzes followed by Calabarzon Region (55-50-73), Western Visayas (46-45-55), Central Visayas (26-25-36) and Cordillera Administrative Region (25-22-23).
Department of Education (DepEd)-Davao spokesperson Jenielito Atillo said they are still happy with the performance of the athletes and he vowed that Davraa will bounce back next year.
Davraa is the host of next year's Palaro.
Meanwhile, the Davraa boxing team ended this year's Palaro with one gold, three silvers and one bronze.
Christian Betonio provided the lone gold for Davraa after he ruled the  school boys flyweight division
Betonio, 16, raised by his widow mother Ana Fe, defeated Johifer Gaki via unanimous decision in their school boys flyweight titular showdown.

Davao City Eagles Wins Silver Medal In Palaro 2018 Secondary Boy's Basketball Tournament

The small but feisty Davao City Eagles secondary basketball team has won the silver medal in the just concluded Palarong Pambansa 2018 secondary boys basketball at the San Juan Municipal Gym in Vigan, Ilocus Sur.
The team who are mostly composed of players from Holy Child of Davao College lose to the National Capital Region (NCRAA) Stalwarts 100-80 in their gold medal match.
NCR who are composed mainly of players from National University brought down the Eagles with their height and shooting touch from the outside.
Davao Eagles coach Nestor Sorrosa is happy with their silver medal performance.
Vince Petdeo Cuajao who scored 17 points for the team in a losing cause is happy with the performance of his team.
Aside from Cuajao, Aljay Alloso also made 19 points for the team that was also bannered by
Holy Child's Joshua Reyes, Vence Malero, Mouriz Senarillos, Cayle Manlimos, Emeliano Escalera and Faizal Allong along with Ateneo de Davao University's Lawrence Marione Angeles, St. Mary's College of Tagum's Junnie Perdido and Felix Magallon and  Cor Jesu College of Digos's Mark Neil Laput.

Davao City Secondary Basketball Team Reaches Semis Of 2018 Palarong Pambansa

The Davao City Eagles secondary basketball team will face Western Visayas in the  2018 Palarong Pambansa secondary boys basketball tournament semifinals in Vigan, Ilocus Sur.
The Eagles got the slot after they upset the favored  Central Luzon, 94-93, on Thursday at the San Juan Covered Court.
Aljay Alloso played hero for the Eagles after he scored a corner jumper with 10 seconds left in the fourth, which turned out to be the game-winner for
Davao Region, whose core is composed of players from Holy Child School of Davao.
The Davao Eagles also had players from Ateneo de Davao, St. Mary’s College of Tagum, and Cor Jesu College in Digos.
Vince Cuajao had 31 points for Davao Region in their win.
Eagles coach Nestor Sorrosa is very happy with their win and he vowed that his team will play hard against Western Visayas.

Davao City Secondary Women's Futsal Team Reaches Semis Of 2018 Palaro

The Davao City Eagles secondary girl's futsal football team has reached the semifinals of the ongoing Santa Municipal Gym in Vigan, Ilocus Sur.
Davao City got the slot to the semifinls after they defeated defending champion Western Visayas in quarterfinals 3-1.
Joyce Semacio provided all the winning goals for the team in their win in the 25th, 31st and 37th minutes of play.
Semancio is very pleased with their win and she vowed that the team will do their best to reached the finals and win the gold.
Davao Eagles coach Alvic Troyo of Philippine College of Technology (PCT) has vowed that his team will play their best in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, the Davao Eagles secondary basketball team is still in the running for the gold medal after they defeated the University of Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers-bannered Central Visayas 80-78.
The Eagles will play against  Central Luzon in their next game.

Southshield Football Club Wins Three Trophies At Del Monte Football Cup In Bukidnon

The Southshield Football Club won a championship and two runner-up finishes in the recent national football tournament Del Monte Football Cup in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.
The 12 and under football team of SFC won the championship in their division after defeating Central Mindanao University football club in a thrilling penalty shoot-out 1-0.
SFC striker Karl Sumampong was declared most valuable player in the championship game after he scored the winning goal for his team.
SFC goalie Zyk Lopez also played superb in the finals after he successfully stopped the goal attempts of their opponents.
They reached the finals after defeating another Bukidnon football team Ollies in the semifinals.
The team coached by AJ Adana are also made up of Charles Chiu, Niel Imperial, Art Eroy, Carlos Angelo Lacerna, Castillo, Gerardo Coronado, Aj Guingguing, Gok-ong, Campana, and EJ Cabiles.
Meanwhile, the 11 under and nine under teams of SFC also won the 1st and 3rd runner up trophies respectively on the said tournament.
The 11 and under team coached by Ronald Manabit are composed of Zyk Lopez, Charles Chiu, James Gamite, Neil imperial, Karlos Donado, Anthony Elorde, Jian Goyonan, Yuan Guingguing, Kael Morata, Luiz Digman, Art Eroy and King Elorde.
The 12 and under team of Southshield Football Club were all smiles after winning the championship in the recent national football tournament Del Monte Football Cup in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.

Davao City Eagles Football Team Wins First 2 Games In 2018 Palarong Pambansa

The Davao City elementary football team are off to a hot and dominating start in the recently opened Palarong Pambansa in Vigan City, Ilocus Sur.
The Davao Eagles team won their first two games in the tournament in a dominating fashion.
The team coached by Romalia Banta beat Zamboanga Peninsula 2-0 in their first game.
Mark Jorell Campos and team captain Lucha Gian Casterial provided the goals in their win.
In their second game, the team which was booted by five members of Tagum city elementary football team beat Central Luzon 4-0.
The goals in their dominant win was provided by Campos and Casterial who provided one goal each and Southshield Football club member Gian Miguel Lacerna who scored two goals.
The team faces their toughest challenge in the competition when they face the National Capital Region in their next game.
The Davao City elementary football team has won their first two games in the ongoing Palarong Pambansa in Vigan City, Ilocus Sur.

Humanitarian Who Gets Award From Davao City Gov't Targets Council Seat In Barangay Maa

A 59-year-old humanitarian who got awarded for his outstanding work inside the Davao City jail is hoping to serve more people by running as a councilor in Barangay Maa, Davao City.
Ricky Umbana formally filed his certificate of candidacy at the Comission on Elections Office on Monday morning.
Umbana is confident with God's help he can win the baragay election race because his main intention in running is to serve more people in his barangay.

No Angeles No Problem As Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) Blue Knights Wins Escandor Cup 2018


Davao City basketball powerhouse Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) Blue Knights successfully withstand the absence of their top point-guard Marione Angeles to win the the championship of the Escandor Cup 2018 Invitational Basketball Tournament under17 "Breaking Barriers" on Sunday afternoon at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.
Addu beat the Lamb of God Sped Academy (LGSA) Saints who fired blanks in the waning seconds of the game 72-61.
The Blue Knights got solid scoring from Lance Justin Carr and Jantu Rubiato II who scored 20 and 16 points respectively in their win.
Addu coach Jess Evangelio is very happy since they were able to play as a team in their win.
On the otherhand, the  Davao Jones Academy (DJA) Spunky won the battle for third after they beat the  visiting St. Mary's College of Tagum Marian Hawks 93-74.
The tournament features some of the top high school basketball teams in region 11 is presented by the Samahang Basketbolista ng Pilipinas (SBP) and presented by SBP regional director and board of trustee Glenn Escandor through SBP executive program officer Ronel Leuterio.

It's now official Davao City Will Host The 2019 Palarong Pambansa

It's now official the host of the 2019 Palarong Pambansa is Davao City.
In a unanimous vote by the 10-member Palarong Pambansa Board during a meeting at the Vigan Convention Center in Vigan, Ilocus Sur, Davao City was chosen to host the biggest annual sporting event in the Philippines.
Davao City won over Zamboanga Province and Misamis Occidental as the Palaro host next year.
The Palarong Pambansa Board is comprised of the Deped Secretary Leonor Briones, four Deped undersecretaries, three Deped assistant secretaries, one PSC representative and one Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) representative.
According to reports,  Davao City assistant city administrator Lawrence Batinding presented the
city's bid on behalf of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio. Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO) officer-in-charge Michael Denton "Mikey" Aportadera was also saw the bid presentation.
The hosting of next year's Palaro also boosted the morale of the city athletes currently playing in this year's Palaro in Vigan.

Maa Resident Has Man For Others Mantra In Life

At 49 years old Barangay Maa, Davao City resident Ricky Umbana is just your typical man in your community with his simple nature.
But unlike most of us, Umbana has made it a habit to help others as his guiding philosophy in life.
While most of us are afraid of interacting with prisoners, Umbana has made its personal mission to go inside the Davao City jail in Barangay Maa to mingle and prisoners on a regular basis.
Despite the fact that he is not given any government position to help others, Umbana has also make a point that he goes out of his house to help his community.
Gifted with a simple spirit and friendly personality, Umbana can easily make friends with others since he is one person easy to deal with it.
This guy is also deeply religious as he is not afraid to do the sign of the cross and pray in public unlike some people who only practice their faith behind close doors.
With his heart focus on helping others, this man is destined to help more people in his community.

Dabawenyo John Marvin Miciano Participates At Bangkok Open Chess Tournament

Fast rising Davaoeno chessplayer international master (IM) John Marvin Miciano, 17 is currently competing in the tough Bangkok Open in Bangkok, Thailand which started yesterday (13th) until the 21st of April.
Miciano will face some of the top chess players in India, Vietnam, China, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan,
 Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Iran in the international chessfest.
The  Senior High School graduate from Far Eastern University is confident of his chances in the tournament since he just won under-18 division in the Asian Youth Chess Championship Monday evening at the Lotus Pang Suan Kaew Hotel in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
The humble Miciano credited his success to coach grand master (GM) Jayson Gonzales who mentored him the past three years.
Aside from Gonzales, Miciano is also grateful to the PSC developmental pool of the Philippine Team of PSC under chairmanWilliam Ramirez and NCFP president Prospero Pichay, Jr. Miciano is the third IM from Davao City and the youngest.
The first Davao City IM was Marlo Micayabas from Toril who is currently based in the United States of America followed by IM Oliver Dimakiling of Sasa.

Serrano Wins Weekly Datba Bowling Tourney At SM Lanang Bowling Lanes

Davao City based veteran bowler Romeo Serrano won P800 after winning the Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association (Datba) weekly qualifying bowling tournament at the SM Lanang Premier Bowling Center.
Serrano, who is also a board member of Datba scored 822 pinfalls after four games to win the bowlfest.
The second place went to Rudy Tongo who won P500 after scoring 803 pinfalls.
The third place went to Manuel Nierra II who got P300 after scoring 784 pinfalls.

Ateneo Faces Lamb of God Sped Academy For Escandor Cup 2018 Invitational Basketball Tournament under17 Finals

After all the smokes are cleared Davao City basketball powerhouse Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) Blue Knights will face the Lamb of God Sped Academy (LGSA) Saints for the championship of the Escandor Cup 2018 Invitational Basketball Tournament under17 "Breaking Barriers" set on
Sunday at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.
Addu got the slot to the finals after they beat Davao Jones Academy (DJA) Spunky in last Monday's semifinals showdown 73-64.
Addu got solid scoring from their dreaded trio Marione Angeles, Andre Nebria and Lance Justin Carr in their win.
The team coached by Jess Evangelio is confident they can win the high basketball crown on Sunday.
LGSA for its part reached the championship game after disposing the visiting St. Mary's College of Tagum Marian Hawks 93-76, in the other semis match.
To beat the favored Addu in their championship game, LGSA coaches Isaias Gravador Jr. and Joshua Aguilon has one thing in mind stop Angeles in their game.
The tournament features some of the top high school basketball teams in region 11.

VXI, Flatworld Remains Spotless In Davao Inter-BPO League Basketball Tournament

The VXI Global Spartans and Flatworld continues to take the lead in their respective brackets with a spotless record in the ongoing Davao Inter-BPO League (DIBL)
Basketball Tournament.
VXI remains the leader in bracket A with a 4-0 record after they beat Focusinc, 73-30, Sunday afternoon at the Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) Gym.
Raphael Romeo Nayve scored 12 poins to carry his team to victory and best player of the game honor at the same time.
Meanwhile, Flatword also remained undefeated after four games after they demolished Alorica, 67-37, behind the heroics of John Michael Mier who scored 22 baskets with four boards.
Flatworld is the leader in bracket B in the basketball tournament featuring some of the call center companies operating in Davao City.
The league is  supported by Sweet Garcias Cafe, Borromeo Insurance Agency, Pru Life UK,
Ramenikko Ramen Haus and Phenom Lifestyle.

Regular Prayer Keeps Spirit Of Prisoners Alive Inside Prison

One of the things that keeps the hopes and spirit of prisoners inside the Davao City Jail in Barangay Maa, Davao City is prayer.
A regular time to talk to God give detainees a sense of hope and positivity as they face life behind bars.
Some kind hearted individuals are doing a regular prayer session inside the city jail to keep the spirit of the prisoners active at all times.
Ricky Umbana and his group from the Couples for Christ in Davao City are visiting the city jail regularly to offer spiritual enlightenment to the prisoners.
Umbana and the CFC made the gesture to visit the jail to offer spiritual help because they believe God is very important in the lives of prisoners.


4 Southshield Football Club Members Will Reinforce Davao City Durians Elementary Football Team In Palaro

Four members of Southshield Football Club were picked to help the  Davao City Durians elementary football team compete in Palarong Pambansa in Vigan City, Ilocus Sur on April 15-22.
The four Southshield members who are part of the team are Gian Miguel Lacerna, Hendrich Denila, Karl Sumampong and Adrian Elarmo.
Southshield is one of the top football clubs in Davao City.
The rest of the team coached by Romalia Banta are the following:team captain Lucha Gian Casterial, Gian Sisnorio, Victor Lagundi, Luis Aquino, Mark Jorell Campos, Julian Lacuesta, Cian Nogadas, Vianney Lagundi, Dave Casipe, Dave Gildore, Eboy Campana, Jan Adrian Rieta, Josh Abendan, and Joshua Dalagan.
The team got the slot to represent Davao Region in the Palaro after they beat Tagum City Tagumpay 4-1 in Davraa.
Banta is very happy with their win and he vowed that they will do their best to put up a good showing in Palaro.
On Sunday the team officially flew to Vigan to compete in this year's Palaro.
The Davao City Durians Elementary football team are all ready to compete in this year's Palaro in Vigan City, Ilocus Sur on April 15-22.

Helping Women Has Become A Mission For Humanitarian Maa Resident

One of the best things in life is to help others especially women.
At 59 years old it has become a mission for Ricky Umbana to help others especially women in his community.
In his neighborhood in NHA Maa, Umbana has become a community organizer where he organized the NHA Maa Women Self Employment Assistance Kaunlaran Association and help the group get P125,000 capital assistance from the office of first district congressman Karlo Nograles and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Umbana also organized the Bigasan ng Barangay Beneficiaries where they were able to get license to buy and sell National Food Authority rice through the help also of the office of first district congressman Karlo Nograles.
With the things he had done for the his community his neighbors especially women were very grateful to Umbana.



Davao City Baseball Team Wins Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa)-Davao Regional Meet

For the third straight year, the University of Mindanao who represented Davao City won the championship of the Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa)-Davao Regional Meet that closed on Wednesday, April 4, in Tagum City.
The team coached by  Vincent Ryan Pereyras Sarabia beat Davao del Norte batters in their best of three championship series.
Davao City first beat Davao del Norte which was represented by  UM Tagum College in game 1 8-7.
The same team then finish off UM Tagum in the second game  5-2 to win the crown and the slot to represent Davao region in the 2018 National Prisaa Games in Tagbilaran City, Bohol on April 21 to 28.
Sarabia who also mentored the 2017 National Prisaa Games men's baseball champion team in Iba, Zambales, is upbeat is very upbeat of their chances in Bohol and he is eyeing a three peat of three straight championship this year.
The champion team was made up of Mark Dave Avenido, Edgardo Baniog, Jr., Anthonie Ubagan, Fermin Madera, Alnyl Jay Capapas, Eldie Butulan, Jose Rolly Millena, Maurice Franz MaƱalac, Jester Dave Mansalayao, Lowie Jhon Chan and Joshua Minguillan.


Humanitarian Davaeono Gets Award For Helping Prisoners Inside Davao City Jail

In the long history of Davao city only a few people and companies gets award from the city government for outstanding work in the community.
One of the lucky persons who gets an award from Davao City government is Ricky Umbana, a long-time member of  Couples for Christ (CFC) in Davao City.
Umbana, a resident of Barangay Maa, Davao City got the award for his kind works to the prisoners inside the Davao City jail in Barangay Maa.
In 2012 Umbana, CFC and Gaward Kalinga were awarded by the city with a plaque for making a difference in the community for constructing houses for female prisoners inside the city jail.
Also awarded by the city that time were Davao Light and Power Company, NCCC, Dizon Farms, Davao City Water District among others.
No less than Davao City mayor Sarah Duterte bestowed the award to Umbana and the other awardees.
Umbana was a huge help in the contruction of houses inside the female detainees compound because he is the CFC Prison Ministry Coordinator since the year 2000.
Umbana has a deep heart for prisoners because he believes helping them could make them more happy and hopeful in life.

Boy,5 Killed Girl, 5 Wounded In Bandit Gun Attack

A five-year-old boy died and a five-year-old girl badly injured after suspected B'laan banditss strafed their house in Barangay Tacul, Kiblawan, Davao del Sur on Thursday.
The Kiblawan Municipal Police identified the slain victim as John Pandoy who died after the attack around 6:35 p.m. of April 5.A
Another minor identified as  Realyn Guitguit was also badly injured in the gun attack.
In the initial police investigation, the victims were inside their house when the nameless suspects attacked them.
The bandits hurriedly escaped towards an unknown direction after the attack.
The wounded victim is still recuperating at a local hospital as the local police investigate the shooting incident.

Davao City Won 3 Golds In Prisaa 11 Regional Meet dancesports competition

Three pairs of dancesports athletes from Davao City are set to represent region 11 in the Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) National Games in Tagbilaran City, Bohol on April 21 to 28.
The danceports athletes got the slot after they won golds in the recent Prisaa  11 Regional Meet dancesports competition.
Jel Jovi Castrodes and Seth Adrian Alladin from Davao Doctors College (DDC) won the gold in the youth modern standard against their own  teammates Ahmad Bagul and
Almira Dumapias who settled for silver.
Precious Diane Ronda paired with Reemo Phet Jerobe Maceda to snatched the gold in youth Latin American.
The silver medal went to the pair of Jamir Pancho and Justine Kaye Elijarde of  Davao del Norte’s University of Mindanao Tagum College.
The third gold medal of Davao City came from  DDC’s Dave Torres and Roshua Daclan who topped the junior Modern Standard event over UMTC-Davao del Norte entry Ammiel Dan Matilda and Marchielyn Opima.


Davao City Wins PRISAA 11 Regional Finals Secondary Basketball Tournament



For the second straight year Davao City will represent region 11 in the Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) national finals junior basketball tournament in Tagbilaran City,Bohol on April 21 to 28.
Davao City got the slot after they defeated  Davao del Sur in their best-of-three championship series in the Prisaa 11
Regional Meet secondary boys basketball championship game at the Rotary Gym in Tagum City, Davao del Norte on Tuesday evening.
Davao City who are most bannered by players from Emar Human and Environmental College defeated Davao del Sur represented by Cor Jesu College of Digos City in the first game 113-108.
The team coached by Jun Montalban of Emar finished off Davao del Sur in the second game 90-80 to claim the gold and the slot to represent Southern Mindanao in the Prisaa national finals.
In game two, Kevin Baste led the charge for Davao City with 31 and got solid scoring support from  Arnie Villanueva of
Agro Industrial College of the Philippines (AIFCP) Sailors who scored 15 points.
The other members of the team are the following: Emar’s Dexter Tabucanon, Ray Allen Cervantes, Ryan Neil Malazarte, Jerold Medina, Marvin Alejano,
Thal Gabriel Dolormente, Ryan Evangelista and Jayson Estepa along with Agro’s Kyle Paquera and
Jose Maria College’s Aldeo Nobie Lucero.

Zumba Activity Improves Health Of Prisoners Inside Davao City Jail

To avoid thinking about negative things, one of the best alternatives for prisoners to do is to engage in worthwhile activities like doing some physical exercises.
Inside the Davao city jail one the exercises that prisoners do to improve their health is a Zumba exercises, a type of exercises where participants do some dance exercises at a beat of a music.
One of the Zumba sessions done inside the city jail in Barangay Maa, Davao City is initiated through the help of Ricky Umbana.
Umbana who has deep heart for prisoners coordinated with the office of first district councilor Joanne Bonguyan to hold Zumba inside the jail.
The prisoners who joined the zumba session were all very happy since the activity did not only entertain them but made them healthy as well.
The prisoners are looking forward to more zumba sessions inside the jail from Umbana and his team.

Lamb of God Sped Academy (LGSA) Saints beat the ACD Warriors In Escandor Cup 2018 Invitational Basketball Tournament


The dream for another championship battle between powerhouses Assumption College of Davao (ACD) Warriors and Ateneo de Davao University in the high school ranks will be put on hold for a little while.
This developed after the Lamb of God Sped Academy (LGSA) Saints beat the ACD Warriors in their quarterfinals game in the Escandor Cup 2018 Invitational Basketball Tournament under 17 held at the Almendrad Gym
Davao City Recreation Center on Sunday.
Down by 20 points, the Saints worked hard on their defense and offence to bring down the Warriors 98-94 and reached the semifinals of the baskeball tournament sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbolista ng
Pilipinas (SBP) and presented by SBP regional director and board of trustee Glenn Escandor through SBP executive
program officer Ronel Leuterio.
With their win, the Saints will face the visiting St. Mary's College of Tagum from Tagum City,  Davao del Norte in the semifinals.
The other semifinal game features Ateneo which earlier defeated another basketball powerhouse Holy Child College of Davao (HCCD) Red Eagles, 89-75 in their quarterfinals game.


Moving Up Ceremomy Of Kids Is Always A Happy Moment For Parents

Seeing your child move up to another level of education and recieving some awards at the same time is always a happy moment for every parent.
Recently, the Maa Christian Learning Center recently had their moving up ceremony for pre-school to grade 5 at Cap Auditorium.
The recognition day is filled with joy especially for parents who saw their own child move to another level of education.
One such proud parents is Ricky Umbana and his wife Cynthia Napalit Umbana who saw their youngest child move to another level of education.


Magdale wins Datba weekly Bowling Tourney

Davao City based bowler Billy Magdale is now richer by P1,200 after winning the  Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association
(Datba) weekly qualifying tournament held at the SM Lanang Premier Bowling Center.
Magdale, an optometrist by profession scored 869 pinfalls to win the bowlfest after four games.
The second place went to Art Galendez who won P700 after scoring 837 pinfalls after four games.
The third place went to Crystal Chavez who won P500 after scoring 821 pinfalls after four games.
The bowlfest was organized by Datba and features some of the top professional bowlers in Davao City.

Holy Week Is Spending Precious Moments with God

While many of us treat Holy Week as a time to spend quality time with our family through vacations. There are some people who religiously consider Holy week as a time to spend precious moment with God.
In Barangay Maa, Ricky Umbana and his family took time to spend some of his time to God by attending some of the Holy Week activities in his barangay.
Umbana, whose deep for God is manifsted by his regular Sunday massess attendance and charity work to people and prisoners inside the Davao City jail.
Unlike some persons, Umbana is not afraid to show his love to God by doing the sign of the cross in public if the occasion calls for it like prayer before a meal in a eatery.
With guys like Umbana in your community you feel happy and secure knowing that a good and religious persons is actually living within your village.


St. Mary's College of Tagum, Ateneo de Davao University Makes It To Semis Of Escandor Cup 2018


The visiting St. Mary's College of Tagum and basketball powerhouse Ateneo de Davao University Blue Knights secured the first two semifinals slot in the ongoing  Escandor Cup 2018 Invitational
Basketball Tournament Under 17 on Sunday, April 1, at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.
The two teams got the slot after they won their respective quarerfinals game on Sunday.
St. Mary's from Tagum City, Davao del Norte beat Philippine Academy of Sakya Davao, 89-75, via overtime to get a place in the semifinals against the winner of the quarterfinal match between Assumption College of Davao and Lamb of God Sped Academy.
Ateneo on the otherhand beat another basketball powerhouse Holy Child College of Davao (HCCD) Red Eagles, 89-75, in the quarterfinals.
Ateneo got 29 points highlighted by four three pointers from point-guard  17-year-old Marion Lawrence Angeles to beat the Reds.
Addu will face the winner of the Davao Jones Academy-Jose Maria College quarterfinals showdown.
