A 26-year-old female amateur boxer from Tuban, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur has won the gold medal in the women's 57 kilograms division of the 10th International Boxing Tournament in Honor of Konstantin Korotkov in Russia Sunday, May 20.
Nesthy Alcayde Petecio beat Pakistani opponent Li Ok Byol, 4-1, in their championship
bout to win the gol medal.
Before reaching the championship bout, Petecio beat perennial tormentor Chinese Yin Junhua, a Rio Olympics silver medalist, in the semifinals.
Petecio, who started his amateur boxing career in Davao City is very happy with his win since it is her third straight gold medals in boxing.
She earlier won the 1st Indian Open International Boxing Tournament in February and in the XXXV International Felis Stamm Tournament for Elite Men and Women in Warsaw, Poland in March.
With her string of wins, Petecio vowed to train harder to win more gold medals for the Philippines.
