These Sports Stars And Teams Made Davao City Proud In 2018

Sports made Davao City take the centerstange in 2018.
Posted below are some of the stars and teams who made the premier city in Mindanao feel proud in 2018.

Baser Amer



The 26-year-old Barangay Maa native has established himself as one of the promising point-guards in the Philippine Basketball Association in 2018.
In his third season as the starting point-guard of Meralco, Amer, a former star of Holy Child of Davao before making it big in Metro Manila averaged 2.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.4 assists — all career-bests.
Amer also made to the roster of Philippine Gilas basketball teams in one of their FIBA sanctioned games in 2018 and in the Southeast Asian games where the Philippines won the basketball gold this year.

Scottie Thompson


This former high school player of Agro Industrial Foundation College is now considered as one of the top players of Barangay Ginebra in the PBA in his third year in the premier professional basketball league in the Philippines.
The 6'1 off-guard from Padada, Davao del Sur has also won the most valuable player award in the recent PBA Commissioners Cup won by his team.
Thompson who got his name after Scottie Pippen as his father is a big Chicago Bulls fan, has also played for the Gilas team in some Fiba games this year.
In his young PBA career, Thompson has established himself as one of the top rebounding guards in the league.


Alvin Pasaol

In college basketball particularly in the UAAP, the premier colliagiate league in the country, Alvin Pasaol is considered as one of the top performers this year.
Pasaol, a former member of the Holy Cross of Davao College Crusader is the heart of and soul of the University of East in UAAP basketball.
A native of Agdao, Davao City, Pasaol established himself as of the top scorers in UAAP this year and he even surpassed the 22.2 points per game  scoring record of Terrence Romeo five years ago.


Southshield Football Club


The 12 and under division of Southshield Football Club were all smiles after winning the prestigious national football tournament Pinas Cup  in Clark Freeport,Pampanga last October 27-30.


In the field of youth football, Davao City football club Southsield who are made up mostly of students from Southpoint School in Barangay Maa also brought honor to Davao City this year.
Southshield under the leadership of its president Carlo Chiu has won various football tournaments in and outside the city for 2018.
Recently, Southshield was even honored by the City Council of Davao for winning championship in a recent national football tournament in Clark Freeport,Pampanga.
First district councilor Pilar Braga authored a resolution recognizing and contratulating the huge win of Southshield in the prestigious national footbal tournament.
The Southshied Football Club won the 12 and under division of Pinas Cup held last October 27-30.
The team beat 25 others team in the tournament to emerge as champion in the prestigious football tournament.
The team who got some reinforcements from other football clubs in Davao City also went undefeated in the duration of the three-day tournament.
Southshield coached by former University of Mindanao football players AJ Adana and Roland Manabit beat Siklab FC 1-0 in a thrilling penaly shoot-out. Siklab FC are composed of players from Makati FC.

Davao Occidental Tigers

The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball Team Davao Occidental Tigers which plays most of their games in Davao City also put the city in the spotlight this year.
The Tigers continue to take the lead in Southern Division of the ongoing Datu Cup of the Maharlika Pilipins Basketball League.
Sporting an impressive 12-3 record, the Tigers owned by Davao Occidental governor Claude Bautista is on top of 14 teams in the MPBL Southern Division.
If the team will continue their winning run they have a good chance of reaching the MPBL finals this year.
