PH dethrones the US as Arnis World Championship Champion

 



The Philippines has successfully dislodged the United States as defending champion in the 16th World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation World Championship held in Mandaue City, Cebu, from July 17 to 21.

The Filipino arnisadors were declared champions in the tournament by 400 athletes from 11 countries.

The host team, composed of the Philippine National Arnis Team and other local teams, won 141 gold medals, 139 silver medals, and 138 bronze.

Annjeanette Brillantes, Jude Rodriguez, and Kate Iccy Solis were the top performers for the Philippines, with three gold medals and one silver medal performance each.

Former US champion placed second with 21 gold, 21 silver, and 47 bronze medals. 

They were followed by South Korea in third place, bagging three golds, three silvers, and nine bronze medals.

Arnis is a traditional form of martial arts that uses sticks and is very popular in Asia. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
