Barangay Ginebra stars supports HCCC Basketball Alumni Cup 2022

 

DAVAO CITY---The ongoing Holy Cross College of Calinan Basketball Alumni Cup 2022 made another first in the history of the annual basketball league among HCCC high school graduates to reach the consciousness of certified PBA stars, particularly from the ageless PBA crowd favorite Barangay Ginebra.

Some of the current stars of Barangay Ginebra have sent video messages offering support to the basketball league and praised HCCC batch 95, the organizer of this year's tournament, for spearheading it for 2022.

Among the Barangay Ginebra stars who offered support and congratulations to the league are LA Tenorio, former star point-guard of Ateneo de Manila University in the UAAP,  Christian Karl Standhardinger, a half-German-Filipino who played in the NCAA in the United States and the basketball leagues in Germany before landing in the PBA, Japhet Aguilar, the 6'9 versatile center from Pampanga who once made it to the summer league team of reigning NBA champion Golden State Warriors, Nard John Pinto, a native of Magsaysay, Davao del Sur and former spunky point-guard of Arellano University Chiefs, and current PBA MVP Scottie Thompson, a former Agro Sailor high school varsity player from Digos City, Davao del Sur.

In a nine-second video message, Thompson wished the league the best of luck and more power to the league.

Tenorio wishes the league all the best of luck in a seven-second video message.

Standhardinger, for his part, wished the league all the best and hoped all participants would have fun.

Aguilar also wished the league the best and hoped God would bless the league more.

Lastly, Pinto wished the league the best of luck and vowed to return that he would attend the championship soon.

As the world has become smaller with the advancement of technology, the league this year has also made many first to make the league more popular and exciting.

7 exciting games in the 5th week of the HCCC Basketball Alumni Cup 2022

 

The fifth week of the  Holy Cross College of Calinan Basketball Alumni Cup 2022 is exciting and heavy as seven games were held on June 12 at the Calinan gymnasium in Calinan, Davao City.

The hard cour battle kickoff with the games between the millennial team of HCCC Batches 2012 and 2014 at around 9 in the morning.

Using the moniker, Braders batch 2012 quickly dispatched their younger opponents 72-49.

The Braders took advantage of the Hangovers' status of their foes to eked out a lopsided win their game.

In the second game, the millennial teams 2000 and 2008 had a face-off on the hardcourt.

The Redhorse of 2000 used their sharp shooting and defense to tame and brought down to the ground the Brave Aguilas of 2008 69-58.

Facing a fierce and high-flying foe, the Redhorse used speed and experience to beat their opponents by 11 points in the game.

In the third game, the HCCC batches of the 80s, the 86ers Bulls, and the 89 teams clashed with each other for pride and honor.

The older 86 team used their experience and poise to demolish the batch 89 team 56-41.

The 86 team takes the young Michael Jordan lead team into a persona to defeat their moniker-less opponent in their game.

The day's fourth game saw the battle between HCCC batches 1990 and 1985.

The Blazing Stallions of the 1990s took advantage of their much younger legs to beat the Lakers Crow of 1985, 61-45.

The Stallions were a team on a mission in their game as they capitalized on their shooting and fast-break plays to defeat their opponent.

The fifth game saw the battle of the feisty HCCC batches 1996 and 1994 on the hard court.

The game between the Brawlers of 1996 and Hoopers of 1994 was close and exciting as both teams were desperate for a win.

Ultimately, the Brawlers came out victorious with a six-point win, 57-51.

The sixth match saw the game between HCCC Batches 1997 and 1993.

The Bulldogs of 1997 showed a strong bite as they feasted and preyed on the Roosters 52-47.

The Roosters played well in the game, but their efforts were not enough to tame the Bulldogs, as they ended up losing by five points.

In the day's final game, HCCC batches 2003 and 2004 face each other for pride and honor on the hardcourt.

After 20 minutes of play, batch 2004 showed they were the boss by defeating and taming the Wolves of 2003 53-42.

Exciting games in the 4th week of the HCCC Basketball Alumni Cup 2022

 

As the weeks go by, the games in the Holy Cross College of Calinan Basketball Alumni Cup 2022 have become more exciting and full of energy.

The fourth week of the competition, which PBA MVP Scottie Thompson graced on its opening salvo on May 15, started with a game between batches 2009 and 2001 around 10 a.m. on June 5.

With more energy and youth on their side, batch 2009 tame the seemingly merciless and superior Titans of 2001 75-54.

Batch 2009 capitalized on their sniping and outside plays to beat their older opponents in their game.

In the second game, an hour later, batches of 2006 and 2000 face each other for pride and recreation.

The cowboys of 2006 channeled the free-spirited and aggressive Cowboys' spirit to beat and intoxicate the Red Horse of batch 2000 71-60.

The Red Horse tried to battle the Cowboys toe to toe, but the sniping and speed of their opponents proved superior in the end, as they lost by 11 points.

The third game is the battle of old-school basketball as HCCC batches 84 and 87 face each other on the hardcourt.

Using the vaunted tough defense and slow offense in the 1980s, the scores of both teams are not that high as they focus more on stopping each other from scoring.

After the smokes have cleared, the Dragons of batch 84 win the game 43-30.

With a 13-point winning advantage, the Dragons can sleep peacefully knowing the current president is the son of the president on the time they graduated in 1984, they also beat the batch who graduated a year when the Yellow movement who is now pink, took power in Malacanang.

In the second to last games, HCCC batches 1999 and 1993 had a friendly and recreational face-off on the basketball court.

The battle between two fighting cocks was very close as expected as it is done in real-time.

But in the end, Anarchy Farm 1999 emerged as the winner 56-52.

Despite the loss, the Rooster remains happy and confident, knowing they only lose by four points in their game.

In the fifth match of the day, HCCC batches 94 and 98 face each other in 1990s basketball which is known for its deliberate offense and the era when the Chicago Bulls was a dynasty in the NBA.

With its hoopers monicker, which means good in playing basketball, batch 1994 annihilates their older by four-year opponents 57-30.

The hoopers dominated the game early and ended up winning by a whopping 27 points margin.

Despite the huge margin of defeat, batch 1994 remains happy since it is not every day you can play competitive basketball and have your batch getting highlighted in a news article which can be read by anyone around the world anytime they want and will be stored in google for the future generations to read.

In the last game, HCCC batches 2018 and 2013 faced each other on the hardcourt.

Using the Cebuano term Subang to soar and rise, the social media era batch demolished the Space Jam of 2013 86-59.

With youth on their side, Subang cruised itself to victory (joyride all over the game) in their game.

5 Games in 3rd Week of HCCC Basketball Alumni Cup 2022

 

Like the previous two weeks, the third week of the ongoing Holy Cross College of Calinan Basketball Alumni Cup 2022 at the Calinan Gymnasium in Calinan, Davao City, remains fun and exciting.

On May 29 at 10 a.m., the HCCC batches 2010 and 2015 had a face-off with each other on the hardcourt.

Using the monicker the Hornets, a widely popular NBA ball club in the 1990s, the batch 2010 beat their younger rivals 56-51.

Channeling the hot shooting of Hornet's star Dell Curry (Stephen Curry's dad), the batch 2010 emerged victorious with a five-point win.

In the second game, the rivalry between HCCC batches 2007 and 2003 was reignited on the hardcourt.

With their monicker Black Mamba, 2007 demolished their older rivals 70-40.

With a sting from their outside sniping and inside plays, the Mamba easily tamed and preyed on the Wolves of 2007.

The third game of the Sunday basketball bonanza saw the HCCC batch 1999 face batch 1997.

The game between the two teams was very exciting and close as the Bulldogs tried their best to prey on the Anarchy of Batch 1999.

However, after the smoke had cleared, Anarchy Farm 1999 emerged victorious with a slight 73-70 win.

In the second to the last game, HCCC batches 93 and 92 face each other for pride and honor.

In a game of wits and skills than speed, the batch 93 rooster beat the kingsman of 1992 with a score of 62-46.

Like a fighting Rooster, the batch 1993 did not allow their rivals to breathe in the game and beat them handily in the end.

In the fifth game, it is the battle of the oldies as HCCC batches 1988 and 1990 face each other. 

Playing their childhood style of old school basketball, both teams played tough physical defense in the game.

In the end, the fierce tigers of 88 tame preyed on the blazing stallions of 1990 42-28.

After a successful opening week, 6 games were played in the 2nd week of the HCCC Basketball Alumni Cup 2022!

 

After a successful opening week wherein three games were played after an excellent opening day program last May 15, six games were conducted in the second week of the Holy Cross College of Calinan Basketball Alumni Cup 2022 at the Calinan Gymnasium in Calinan, Davao City.

On May 22 at 10 in the morning, the millennial teams of HCCC batch 2011 and batch 2014 face each other in a battle of pride and honor.

HCCC Batch 2014 Hangovers showed that getting drunk is not a hindrance to beating their sharp opponent, Razorbacks, 58-46.

Graduating in an era where the small ball basketball is starting to get known, the Hangovers used their team work and defense to defeat their opponent by 12 points.

An hour later, the HCCC Batches 2013 and 2012 had their own face-off for pride and honor as well.

HCCC Batch 2012 used their camaraderie and sharp shooting as Braders to defeat the cute but feisty Space Jam team 61-55.

The Braders used their poise and experience in the end to defeat the Space Jam, whose second installment in the cinema starring Lebron Jame is a flop compared to the first one top-billed by Michael Jordan.

In the third game, the HCCC Batches 2006 and 2009 clashed with each other on the hardcourt.

After 20 minutes of play, the batch 2006 proved to be a much tougher team as they ended up winning 60-51.

Just like its logo of a mudfish, batch 2006 went deeper into its bag of tricks to defeat their younger opponents in their game.

In the fourth game, the 1990s HCCC batches 94 and 99 faced each other in what turned out to be a lopsided game.

Batch 94 is very confident of beating their opponent using the monicker Hoopers, which signifies basketball-loving souls.

However, Anarchy Game Farm 99 had other things in mind, without due respect to existing laws and taking in the personas of NBA 90s stars Shaq O'Neal and Michael Jordan, batch 99 annihilates batch 94 76-52.

In the second to last game, the oldie HCCC batches 85 and 86 face each other in a game of tactics instead of speed and talent.

Using the appropriate monicker of Lakers, Crow batch 85 beat batch 86 53-45.

The era of the 1980s is dominated by the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA.

Batch 86, who uses the more popular monicker Bulls, ends up losing since the Bulls during the 1980s was a weak team it just became strong in the 1990s after years of losing in the 1980s.

In the penultimate game of the day, the millennial batches of 2004 and 2008 face each other in a tense and close match.

The Batch 2008, with the sharp claws of an eagle, prey on their opponent 62-58.

Just like their monicker, the Boss, batch 2004 fought hard, but in the end, the Brave Aguilas proved to them that they were a better team in the end.

Brawlers, Bulldogs, Red Horse Get Opening Day Wins In HCCC Basketball Alumni Cup 2022!

 To most people, May 15, 2022, which is a Sunday, is a rest and recreation day, especially a payday.

But for the students and graduates of Holy Cross College of Calinan, May 15 is extra-special since it is the day the Blessed Marie Rivier the, founder of Presentation of Mary (PM) of Sisters who manages the school, was officially canonized by the Roman Catholic Church as a Saint.

Ironically, on the same, the opening of the biggest basketball tournament among HCCC high school batches in terms of participants and prizes is also being conducted inside the refurbished Calinan Gymnasium.

The opening of the HCCC Alumni Basketball Cup 2022 started with an early morning mass at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church just in front of the HCCC campus.

After the mass, a motorcade was conducted in some of the streets of Calinan Poblacion to let the people know of the opening of the basketball tournament that features the former graduates of the HCCC high school department.

The motorcade features the sponsoring batch HCCC Batch 1995 where this writer proudly belongs, the participating teams, and the special guests in the opening day Barangay Ginebra young Davaoeno stars Digos City, Davao del Sur native Scottie Thompson and Magsaysay, Davao del Sur Sur resident Nards Pinto.

After the motorcade, a simple opening program was conducted inside the Calinan gymnasium, wherein the two PBA stars were mobbed by the HCCC graduates who were too happy to see them up close and personal and not just on television.

Both Thompson and Pinton gamely pose with the Holy Crossan alumni for selfies and videos like true professionals.

The two also took time to playfully shoot some hoops with their supporters.

Pinto, a regular fixture in Calinan gym before he went to Manila to study and play professionally, led the oath of sportsmanship among the HCCC Batches.

Former HCCC high school principal Letty Palarca also graced the occasion on behalf of HCCC Alumni president Peter Parian who is out due to a prior commitment.

In her speech, Palarca expressed joy that the traditional Alumni Basketball Cup is being organized again two years since the COVID-19 pandemic started.

Palarca also welcomed Thompson and Pinto to Calinan and revealed that her husband is a die hard Ginebra fan.

She also announced the search for the outstanding HCCC Alumni.

Aside from Palarca, Calinan Barangay Captain Urisicio Mantiza Ungab also joined the opening festivity, wherein he welcomed all the participants in the tournament and reminded them to always follow the basic health safety protocols.

Thompson, for his part, also shared some words of wisdom to the participating teams to always strive hard to achieve their goals.

He also spearheaded the ceremonial opening tip.

Before the opening day program ended, two special awards were also given to batch 2008, aka Brave Aguilas, for being the early bird in paying their team's registration and Batch 2012 for having the best team monicker, the Braders!

Brawlers, Bulldogs, Red Horse Drew 1st Blood

HCCC Batches 1996, 1997, and 2000 were the big winners on day one of the basketball tournament.

The HCCC Batch 1996 Brawlers use their brawn and power to prey on HCCC Batch 1993 Roosters.

The game is quite close as the two teams want to win, but eventually, the Brawlers showed class and put an end to the Roosters in their game.

In the second game, the HCCC Batch 1997 Bulldogs showed that their teeth were much stronger than the Sundowners in their game.

Bulldogs came up big with a win.

In the third and last game, the HCCC Batch 2000 Red Horse intoxicate the seemingly unbeatable HCCC Batch 2001 Titans to come up victorious in their game. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
