DAVAO CITY---For the second straight week, promising young chessers from Panabo City, Davao del Norte ruled the Davao del Norte Online Chess Tournament last August 7.
Jerome Pullos of Panabo City emerged as champion after scoring 10 points in the tournament.
Pullos, a veteran of many local and national chess tournaments won P150 as prize.
The second place went to Tagum City's John Esencia who also 10 points but Pullos beat him via a tiebreak.
Esencia won P100 as prize.
The third place went to Christian Gian Karlo Arca also of Panabo City.
Arca won P50 as prize.
The weekly chess tournament was organized by the sports division of the province of Davao del Norte and features some of the top young chessers of the said province.
The winners in the weekly tournaments are set to meet in the grand finals were the prizes are bigger.
The Davao del Norte provincial sports office organized the tournament earlier to provide young chessers in the province the chance to hone their talents by facing other chessers in Davao del Norte.(Romeo Braceros Jr.)
