Davaoenos rule Ely Acas Birthday Online Chess Tournament

DAVAO CITY---Chessers who trace their roots in region 11 were the big winners in the Ely Acas Birthday Online Chess Tournament last November 22.

Davaoeno International Master John Marvin Miciano ruled the Open category after scoring 8.5 points in nine games.

Miciano, a member of the Far Eastern University college varsity men's chess team won P300 as a prize.

The second place went to another Davaeno National Master Jonathan Tan who won P200 after scoring eight points.

The third place went to Tagum City's Jandee Honrada who scored seven points.

Honrada won P150 cash as prize.

A total of 108 chess players all over the Philippines joined the tournament earlier.

In the 13 and under a category, Arena Grand Master (AGM) Christian Gian Karlo Arca ruled the competition after scoring a perfect nine points in nine games.

Arca, a resident of Panabo City, Davao del Norte won P300 as a prize.

The second place went to Joemel Narzabal of Dipolog City who scored seven points.

Narzabal won P200 as prize.

The third place went to John David Makalintal of Caloocan City who won P150 as a prize.

A total of 55 young chessers all over the Philippines joined the tournament.

The tournament was organized to celebrate the natal day of Ely Acas, a veteran arbiter and chess organizer in Mindanao. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
