Benevolent Davao lawyer donates sports equipment to Bayabas Integrated School

DAVAO CITY---A veteran Davao City lawyer, chess player, and organizer brought cheers to the students of Bayabas Integrated School in Purok 5, Bayabas, Toril, Davao City.

Lawyer  Jong Guevarra Jr., the owner of Jarden del Roca, a resort in Eden Bayabas, Toril, donated some sports equipment to the school last February 24 to inspire them to play sports and avoid getting involved in vices, especially illegal drugs.

"Yes to Sports. No to Drugs!" Guevarra said in a Facebook post.

Among the sports gear provided by Guevarra to the school are chess boards, basketball balls, and badminton, among others.

Bayabas Integrated School, in a Facebook post, offered thanks to Gueverra for the donation, which is a huge help in the school's sports program.

"A big thanks for the undying support "One More Bucket," especially Atty. Dionisio "Jong" Guevara Jr. Indeed, this gesture will make a great impact in developing the learners' skills," the school said.

Guevarra recently won the National Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) chess championships on February 15 at the NCCC Mall Atrium.

Guevarra won the coveted crown against some of the top lawyer chess players in the country.

The win is sweet for Guevarra since it came 10 years after he finished second in the same tournament held in 2013 to eventual champion lawyer Melzar Galicia.

A veteran lawyer and owner of Jarden del Roca, a resort in Eden Bayabas, Toril, Guevarra scored 7.5 points in eight games to win the title.

Aside from the bragging rights, Guevarra also won P5,000 and a trophy as prizes.

The second place went to lawyer Cliburn Anthony Orbe of Pagadian City IBP  chapter with six points, winning P2,500. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
