Barangay captain Jerry Licarte banks on performance as formalizes bid for reelection in Barangay Sasa

 

First-term Barangay Sasa chairman Jerry Licarte is banking on his performance and service-oriented projects as he formalizes his bid for reelection as barangay captain on August 30 at the Comelec office in Magsaysay Street, Davao City.

Accompanied by his team comprising of six incumbents barangay councilor and his SK candidates, Licarte filed his certificate of candidacy as Barangay Sasa chairman on Wednesday morning.

Licarte told the Latest Davao News team that he and his candidates will focus on bringing more development and genuine public service to the residents of Barangay Sasa if they get elected in the October 30 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

Since he assumed office as barangay captain in 2018, many developments can be visibly seen in Barangay Sasa as far as infrastructure and social services are concerned.

Despite being a diabetic person, Licarte was able to serve the residents of Barangay Sasa during COVID time by providing them the needed relief, food, and financial assistance.

Under his leadership, Barangay Sasa also acquired several vehicles to serve the people in his barangay in terms of needs, such as disasters and emergencies.

The ambulance of Barangay Sasa is also on standby 24/7 to ferry sick residents to and from the hospital if they need an immediate medical transport vehicle free of charge.

Having served the people of Sasa for the past 23 years, Licarte has prioritized initiating projects that will genuinely benefit his beloved constituents.

After many years since it was built, it is only the Licarte who had the balls and will to renovate the Barangay Hall of Sasa so that it can better serve the residents.

To relieve the residents of the coastal puroks of Barangay Sasa, the Licarte also decided to construct concrete footbridges to replace the dangerous wooden footbridges in the area.

Under Licarte's watch, seven gyms were also constructed that greatly benefitted Barangay Sasa residents.

Despite being a neophyte barangay chairman, Licarte surpassed the achievements of the previous barangay captains who served Barangay Sasa.

Banking on his solid performance in his first year as barangay captain, Licarte is confident he can still get the trust and confidence of his people in this year's BSKE.

DILG 11 declared Barangay Sasa under Jerry Licarte's leadership as ideal in handling VAWC cases

 

The Department of Interior and Local Government gave Barangay Sasa a certificate of recognition for properly handling cases involving Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC).

DILG City director Vicky Sarcena gave the plaque to Barangay Sasa chairman Jerry Licarte on August 7.

Sarcena said Barangay Sasa, under Licarte's leadership, achieved an ideal level of functionality with a rating of 80.5 on its Barangay Violence Against Women (VAW) desk for 2022.

Licarte, for his part, is very proud and happy for the recognition given by DILG since the award signifies that he is doing well in handling VAWC cases.

He said since he assumed office as barangay captain in 2018, he made it a priority to create a desk that will handle VAWC cases.

"We made sure matabangan namo tanan naay problema sa VAWC nga gidala sa barangay," Licarte said.

Meanwhile, since he assumed office as the new Barangay captain of Sasa Licarte in coordination with the office of second district congressman, Vincent Garcia has already constructed six covered gymnasiums in his beloved barangay.

Licarte said he made it a priority to construct more gyms in his barangays since this structure is very important to the lives of the residents.

"Kaning gymasiums dilang dulaan ug basketball ug uban pang sports kung dili diri sad ginahimo ang mga social events kada purok," Licarte said.

He said instead of looking for a venue to hold their events and paying a rental fee, Barangay Sasa residents can use these gyms instead without extra cost on their part.

Having served Barangay Sasa for the past 23 years, starting as a barangay councilor, Licarte said he knows the importance of infrastructure developments aside from basic services to the needs of his beloved constituents.

Licarte said aside from gyms, he also initiated a lot of road improvement projects in his first term as barangay chairman, like the concreating of De Guzman Street in Kilometer Sasa, which had not been done by previous barangay captains for the past 43 years.

The footbridges, which cost P400,000, greatly help the residents in these areas since they give them security when they go in and out of their place.

"The concrete footbridges replace the wooden worn-out foot bridges in the area, which is dangerous for the residents," Licarte said.

Aside from making life easier and safer for residents, concreating footbridges also promotes business and cleanliness in these puroks.

After 43 years of waiting, the residents of De Guzman Street in Barangay Sasa can finally experience relief since their road is cemented and flood free due to the efforts and initiative of first-time Barangay Sasa captain Jerry Licarte.

For more than four decades, the area used to be muddy and flood-prone since the former barangay captains did not have the money to rehabilitate it since the barangay funds were not enough for it.

But unlike the previous barangay captains, Licarte is a different breed since he wants things done, especially if it benefits his beloved constituents.

To cope with the high cost of cementing the said area, Licarte sought the help of Davaoo City second district congressman Vince Garcia who provided congressional funds for the project.

Licarte said aside from concreating the area, they also put box culverts and canals in the area to avoid flooding.

Due to his remarkable project, which really changed the lives of people in the area, the Jesus is Lord Church gave Licarte a plaque of recognition.

The JIL praised Licarte for his leadership in successfully implementing and completing the road cementing project in De Guzman Village, kilometer 12 Sasa, Davao City.

The religious organization said the project Licarte has contributed immensely to improving the lives of the people in his barangay.

Licarte, for his part, is happy and humbled to have received such a kind award from JIL.

Jerry Licarte wants to make Barangay Sasa drug-free if he gets reelected as barangay captain

 

Service-oriented first-term barangay captain Jerry Licarte wants to make Barangay Sasa drug-free if his beloved constituents reelect him for the second time in the forthcoming Sangguniang Kabataan and Barangay Election this October.

Licarte said seeing several barangays in Davao City declared drug-free, he is challenged to exert more effort to totally weed out illegal drugs in Barangay Sasa.

"In my second term, if the people reelect me, I will work hard to make Barangay Sasa drug-free since it is my advocacy to fight the drug menace in Barangay Sasa," Licarte said.

Since he assumed office as barangay captain of Barangay Sasa in 2018, Licarte has closely coordinated with the local police to fight the drug menace, and their efforts have yielded in the arrest of many drug suspects and seizure of many kilos of illegal drugs.

Putting his life for the sake of his beloved constituents is one of the most admirable characteristics of Licarte.

During the COVID time in 2019 to 2022, Despite the risk, Licarte fulfilled his job by ensuring all COVID protocols were safely followed and all residents of Barangay Sasa got all the aid they could, from food to finances.

Licarte is diagnosed with diabetes, which puts him at risk of COVID if he decides to move around and serve his people as the barangay chairman of Barangay Sasa.

He said with the help of the barangay functionaries and purok leaders in Barangay Sasa, they could serve the people well during COVID time.

Known for being softhearted to those in need, Licarte consider his strong leadership in addressing the concerns of his beloved constituents as one of his significant achievements in his first term as barangay chairman.

"Katong pandemic nibarug dyud ko ug walay hadlok maski paman immuno compromise ko," Licarte said.

Licarte said he is very proud that despite being a neophyte as barangay captain, he was able to protect and provide for the needs of his people during COVID time.

Barangay Sasa captain Jerry Licarte vows to follow election rules and will continue to implement projects before the campaign period

 

Barangay Sasa captain Jerry Licarte has vowed to follow election rules after participating in a voter education campaign conducted by the Commission on Elections at SM City Davao recently.

Licarte said he learned a lot during the activity about the rules in October's forthcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

He said many of the candidates attended the event, and he was lucky to get a seat during the forum.

The service-oriented barangay chairman revealed he could also ask questions at the event if barangay officials can continue to do their projects even after filing their certificate of candidacy.

The first-term barangay captain said he is happy that Comelec allowed barangay officials to continue to do their projects even after filing as long as they do not say vote for me during these activities.

Licarte said he still has a lot of projects and programs remaining before his first term ends, and he vowed to continue it.

Despite the challenges he will face as he seeks a second term as barangay captain, Licarte said he hopes to win again and continue the good works he started when he became a barangay chairman in 2018.

Barangay Sasa gets 1st place in the 2nd District Volleyball League

 

A team from Barangay Sasa won the women's division of the Second District Volleyball League championship last July 30.

The team represented by Dona Pillar beat other barangays from the second district to win the coveted trophy.

Barangay Sasa captain Jerry Licarte is very happy and proud of their team's achievement.

The win of Barangay Sasa is a strong indication that the sports program under the leadership of Licarte is solid and practical.

Since he assumed office as barangay chairman in 2018, Licarte has made it a point to prioritize sports in his administration.

Licarte, in coordination with the Sanguniang Kabataan in his barangay, initiated various sports-related tournaments such as Zumba, basketball, and volleyball, among others, in his barangay.

The service-oriented Licarte prioritized sports in his administration since he wanted a healthy lifestyle for his constituents and to keep the youth away from illegal drugs.

With the strong support from Licarte, athletes from Barangay Sasa are very inspired to play, and most of them won their events while representing their barangay.
