Davaoenos gets training camp call for PH U-16 football team



Davao City---Two promising teen Davaoeno football players are given slots to compete for a roster spot in the Philippine under-16 men's football team that will compete in international competitions.

Anthony Elorde, a student of Southpoint School in Barangay Maa here and a CR7 Truck Football team member, is picked to join the training camp.

Last year, the city council of Davao lauded Elorde for helping the Philippines, represented by the Makati Football Club under-14 team, beat the bigger St. George Australia team 2-1 in the finals of the 2022 Malaysia Borneo Football Cup in Sabah, Malaysia at around 2 p.m. on October 4,2024. 

Authored by veteran first district councilor Pilar Braga, the council praised Elorde for bringing honor to Davao City and the Philippines with his performance in the international football tournament as a defender for Makati FC.

To recall, the team went undefeated in the tournament in five games, including the finals.

The team got a champion trophy as a prize, as well as individual trophies, certificates, jerseys, and soccer balls for the players.

Dr. Aileen Elorde, the mother of  Anthony, also a member of the Davao City-based football club Southshield FC, is grateful for the council resolution since it boosts his son's morale to pursue his promising future amateur football career.

Aside from Elorde also given a slot to compete in the training pool is Lleomer Polo. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
