DAVAO CITY---A promising boxer from Tampilisan, Zamboanga del Norte handed a previously unbeaten knockout artist from Puerto Rico his first defeat on October 30 at the Madison Square Garden, New York.

Jonas Sultan (18-5,11) knockdown artist Puerto Rican Carlos Caraballo (14-1,14) four times to win their bout via a majority decision 94-93 in the Bantamweight division.

Sultan 29 overcame the odds to beat the technically sound boxer Carballo, who hasn't gone beyond five rounds thus far, in a bantamweight 10-rounder.

The Mindanaoan boxer used the power of his hands to defeat the favored Puerto Rican boxer.

In his career, Sultan already knocked out 11, including Sharone Carter whom he disposed of in the seventh round on August 14 to climb to No. 9 in the World Boxing Association bantamweight contenders.

Sultan can also withstand pounding as he was able to beat current World Boxing Organization 118-pound champion Johnriel Casimero in an eliminator before losing to International Boxing Federation super flyweight titlist Jerwin Ancajas in 2018. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
