DAVAO CITY---The Philippine Sports Commission, through the Office of Commissioner Charles Raymond A. Maxey, has started its talks with the Provincial Government of Benguet to implement the documentation of the Indigenous Peoples (IP) traditional sports and games here in the province scheduled on 19 and 20 November 2021.

Maxey was represented by his Executive Assistant and Indigenous Peoples Games project head, Karlo Paolo R. Pates in the talk with Dean Mark Monang, Sports Development Officer II from the Office of the Governor of Benguet, and Recto Alawas, Sangguniang Panlalawigan IP Mandatory Representative.

The documentation of the traditional sports and games of the Indigenous Peoples is in coordination with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP).

Last October 8, Maxey also personally visited Lamlifew Tribal Museum and Kalon Barak Skyline Ridge in Malungon, Sarangani.
The area is the main venue for the conduct of the pre-recording of traditional sports and games of the Blaan Indigenous Cultural community.

This activity is PSC's effort in observance of the 2021 Quincentennial Commemorations in the Philippines (QCP).

The 2021 Quincentennial Commemorations in the Philippines (2021 QCP) is a series of observances organized to mark the 500th anniversary of various events in the Philippines, notably the introduction of Christianity in the Philippines, the role of the country in the Magellan–Elcano circumnavigation, and the victory of Lapulapu in the Battle of Mactan.

The Philippine national government aims to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Filipinos' first contact with the Spanish in 1521 from a Filipino-centric point of view 2021.

The National Quincentennial Committee (NQC) was formed for this purpose in May 2018, when President Rodrigo Duterte issued Executive Order (EO) No. 55.

President Duterte issued EO 103 on January 28, 2019, formalizing the intent for the commemorations to be "Filipino-centric" and expanding the membership and scope of the NQC. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
