Tancontian siblings targets medal in 2021 World Sambo Championship

DAVAO CITY –--Two Davaoeno members of Pilipinas Sambo are set to join the 2021 World Sambo Championship in Uzbekistan on November 11-15.


Sydney Sy Tancontian and her younger brother Chino Sy Tancontian are part of the Pilipinas Sambo team that will compete in the prestigious international Sambo competition.

Sydney, 21 who won the bronze medal in the 2020 World Sambo Championship in Novi Sad, Serbia last November 8, 2020, is hoping to win the gold medal this year.

In a television interview, Sydney said she is inspired by the recent international win of Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo and she hopes to follow in his winning path this year.

"Hopefully mananalo ako ng gold this year," Sydney told PTV Sports.

To boost her gold medal chances, Sydney recently trained in France.

Like her elder sister, Chino is also hoping to win a medal for the Philippines this year.

Aside from the two also part of the Philippine contingent is their head coach Ace Larida and two other members of the team. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
