Davao Chess Wizards beat Olongapo, Chinese teams in PCAP 3rd conference

DAVAO CITY---The dream of Davao Executives Chess Wizards to enter the quarterfinals in the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) 3rd conference is still very much alive.


On November 6, the Wizards beat Olongapo 13-8 and the Chinese team Pengchen, 23-0 to improve its record to eight wins and 11 defeats which is currently ranked seventh in the Southen division.

Mary Israel Palero-Segarra, NM Alexander Lupian, John Ray Batucan, and AGM Lyndon Sombilon scored for Davao in the blitz portion while NM Aglipay Eight Oberio, Mary Israel Palero-Segarra, NM Alexander Lupian, Denzel John Amar, and Anthony Mosqueda scored in the rapid games.

The Wizards hopes to keep their winning streak going when they face the Bangkok Double Bishop at 7:00 PM and the rising stars of Pampanga Checkers at 9:00 PM on November 10.

PCAP will have its last four matches on November 10 and November 13 before the top eight teams in each division will be identified to proceed to the quarter-finals.

Starting quarter-finals, all matches will be in a knock-out format until the last two teams battle it out for the PCAP 3rd Conference trophy on top of a lofty cash prize. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
