Flatworld Remain Unbeaten After 3 Games In Davao City Inter-BPO Basketball Tourney


Flatworld is the surprise team in the ongoing Davao Inter-BPO League (DIBL) as the team remained unbeaten after three games.
Recently, Flatworld snatched its third win without any defeat in the basketball tournament featuring some of the call center companies in Davao City by beating Sutherland 56-43.
In their win, Rene Golosino scored 15 points, grabbed six rebounds ad dished out three assisst to lead his team to victory and to a spotless record.
With their win, Flatworld holds the top spot in bracket B alongside Alorica who earlier defeated Northeast Solutions Inc 69-40.
Meanwhile in group A, VXI Global holds the top spot after beating KKC Outsourcing Corporation, 51-37.
With their win, VXI remains spotless after three games and shares the lead with Awesome OS who also has a 3-0 record.
Awesome OS captured its third victory after beating Convergys, 47-33.

8 Teams Make It To Quarterfinals Of Escandor Cup 2018 Invitational Basketball Tournament

Eight high school basketball teams will slug it out in the quarterfinals of the Escandor Cup 2018 Invitational Basketball Tournament at the
Davao City Recreation Center (DCRC) Almendras Gym.
The eight teams who made it to the quarterfinals are the following: Ateneo de Davao University,  Holy Child College of Davao, St. Mary's College of Tagum,
Philippine Academy of Sakya Davao, Jose Maria College, Davao Jones Academy, Assumption College of Davao, and Lamb of God Sped Academy.
The quarterfinals gets going on April 1 wherein Addu will face Holy Child, St. Mary' College will face Philippine Academy of Sakya.
Jose Maria College will face the Davao Jones Academy, and the Assumption College of Davao will battle Lamb of God Sped Academy.
The first game will start at 9 in the morning.
The winners in the quarterfinals will move to the semfinals enroute to the championship round in the event
devoted for players 17 years old and below.

Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas Davao Region executive program officer, through the support of SBP board of trustee and
Regional Director Glenn Escandor spearheaded the tournament in order to improve the level of competition in Davao City while giving more
opportunities for the young aspiring athletes.

3 Davao Bets Made It To National Finals Of National Age-Group Chess Championships (NAGCC) in Roxas City

For finishing in the top three in their respective categories, three promising Davao City chess players will compete in the national finals of the National Age-Group Chess Championships (NAGCC) in Roxas City on May 5-13.
Davaoenos Gino Angelo Asuncion, James Catayas and Samantha Umayan has made it to the national finals after their decent finish in the the recently-concluded (NAGCC)-Mindanao Leg at Baywalk Hotel, Mati City, Davao Oriental.
Asuncion made it to the top three of the open 20 category while Catayas in the open 10 category.
Umayan for her part made it in the girls 12 category.
The open 20 category was earlier won by  Tristan Frech Ibaoc of Cagayan de Oro City who beat fellow four-pointer Renard
Mamaril via superior tiebreaks in the five-round Swiss System format tournament.
The Davao City chess players face tough opponents in the regional eliminations but luckily they still able to make it to the top three to quality to the national finals.

Family Day Sa Maa Christian Learning Center Nagmalampuson

Gipahigayon sa MCLC ang Family Day aron hatagan ang mga estudyante niini kauban ang ilahang pamilya ug tsansa nga mag bonding ug mas magsuod pa sa usag-usa.
Nagpahigayon ug nagkadaiyang duwa ang MCLC aron hatagan ug kalipay ang mga estudyante niini ug ilahang mga pamilya.
Nanghatag sad ug gasa ang MCLC pinaagi sa raffle sa mga pamilya nga nilahutay taliwala sa makusog nga uwan nianang adlawa.
Nagtigi ang lima ka tims nga gilangkuban sa green, yellow, red, violet, ug blue sa nagkadaiyang duwa sa usa ka adlaw nga aktibidad.
Wala sab nagpatarog ang mga estudyante sa bunok sa ulan ug nagpadayon sa pagkiay-kiay sa kontest sa cheerdance.
Human sa usa ka adlaw nga aktibidad nahimong kampeon ang Violet Thundervolt team nga gigiyahan ni Charies Montellano ug Cecile Bornea-Develleres Salvan.
Nakuha sa Green team nga gigiyahan ni Jerome Turno ug Mercy Bacus ang ikaduhang puwesto.
Mapasalamaton kaayo si MCLC administrator Edwin Zafra sa mga niapil sa family day taliwala sa ulan ug naglaom kini nga mas mamahimong suod ang mga ginikanan sa mga estudyante human sa maong aktibidad.

Fan Made An Intricate Scottie Thompson Tattoo On His Leg

A die hard fan of former Agro Sailor Scottie Thompson has made it to the viral headlines after he decided to make an intricate tattoo of his idol's face on the back of his leg.
A certain Eka Castro made the one of a kind gesture due to his deep admiration to Thompson who currently plays for the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings.
Aside from a bust of Scottie, the skin art also includes his moniker "The Pearl", which was taken from his first name, Earl, in a bold typeface.
The blood-red Ginebra away jersey Scottie is wearing on the tattoo is also strikingly detailed, as it even includes the maker's brand, the PBA logo, and a raw rendition of the Ginebra branding.
Thompson himself saw the ink, and couldn't help but be amazed.

Concert For A Cause Aron Makakuha Ug Pondo Sa Priso Sulod Sa Davao City Jail

Usa sa mga taong madasigong motabang sa mga pinireso mao si Ricky Umbana.
Niadtong Abril 4,2009, gipangunahan ni Umbana ang pag organisa sa "Jail Break Concert" usa ka benefit concert for a cause aron makakuha ug pondo para sa mga preso sulod sa Davao City Jail sa Barangay Maa, Davao City.
Ang konsierto nga gilangkuban sa 28 ka mga pinireso nga nag perform nahimong successful tungod sa tabang  ug paningkamot ni Umbana.
Tungod sa maong konsierto nahatagan ug dakong pondo ang mga pinireso sulod sa city jail aron ilahang magamit sa ilahang mga proyekto.

Kidapawan City National High School Rules 81st Araw ng Dabaw Athletics Competition

The visiting  Kidapawan City National High School (KCNHS) won 11 gold medals to become the over-all champion in the recent 81st Araw ng Dabaw athletics competition at the Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) Track Oval in Matina, Davao City.
Promising runner Precious Joy Velarde lead the medal haul of the Kidapawan City, North Cotabato based team with three gold medals.
Velarde won the 100m, 200m and 400m to carry her team to the over-all championship.
On the men's side, Mark Angelo Bansag duplicated Velarde’s feat as he also ruled three events including 1,500m, 800m and 400m boys’ kid’s events.
The other gold medal winners of KCNHS are the following: Jennifer Gido won two golds from the 1,500m and 400m girls’ kid’s events. Jayson Apostol (5,000m, 13-16 years
old), Ysharah Daligdig (2,000m walk, 13-16 years old girls) and Ken Mar Alolosan (200m, senior’s men).
The second place went to Tagum City, Davao del Norte with eight golds.
Siblings  Hazel and James Lloyd Guibone won two gold medals each to lead the medal colletection of the team. Hazel won the young girls 100m and
200m events. James Lloyd, for his part, won the 100m and 200m seniors men events. Other gold medalists are Kate Casia
(100m seniors women), John Dinopol (400m senior men) and Fritz Clarence Lantaco (800m senior men). Guibone and company also won the 4x100m girls 13-16 years old event.

Sa iyahang komunidad sa NHA Maa, Davao City nahimong community organizer si Umbana ug iyahang gi-organize ang NHA Maa Women Self Employment Assistance Kaunlaran Association diin ang maong grupo nakakuha ug P125,000 capital assistance gikan sa Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Gi organisa sad ni Umbana ang Bigasan ng Barangay Beneficiaries kung diin nakakuha sila ug lisensiya nga mopalit ug mobaligya ug National Food Authority nga bugas.
Tungod sa maayong nga binuhatan ni Umbana mapasalamaton kaayo kaniya ang iyahang kabarangay ilabi na ang mga kababaihan.


Tagum City Set To Host PRISAA 11 Meet On April 2 to 4

Some of the top private schools in region 11 are set to compete in the Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) 11 Meet in Tagum City set on April 2 to 4.
Students of private educational institutions from Davao City, Davao del Sur and Davao del Norte will compete in the various sporting events.
Prisaa-Davao executive director Joaquin "Boy" Sarabia said the opening program starts at 3 p.m. on April 2.
The participating teams will compete in the following sports in the regional meet: volleyball, chess, beach volleyball, football, taekwondo, baseball, athletics, badminton, basketball; dance sports,
swimming, tennis, table tennis and sepak takraw and softball, among others.
The winners in the regional meet will compete in the  National Prisaa Championships on April 21 to 28 in Tagbilaran, Bohol.

IGACOS Pair Wins 81st Araw ng Dabaw Youth Beach Volleyball Tournament

Living in an island surrounded by sand and a vast body of water certainly has its perks in the sport of beach volleyball.
A young pair from the Island Garden City of Samal won the girl' division in the  81st Araw ng Dabaw Youth Beach Volleyball Tournament held at the Felis Resort Complex last March 18.
Daphne Mabong and Kycel Trisha Jane Del Campo of Igacos beat  Batang Pinoy qualifiers composed of Keith Guma and April Joy Locaberte to win the crown.
The Batang Pinoy volleybelles for their part won second place after beating third placer Khalia Sinsuat and Kyla Sebuco-powered University of
Immaculate Conception (UIC) 21-9.
In the men's side, the pair from Jose Maria College won the championship after beating Davao City National High School (DCNHS) 23-21 in the finals.
Christopher Estoses and Journe Cataag-bannered JMC beat Kayeanne Monares and Carl Dimalanta of DCNHS in the championship round.
The event was earlier presented by the City Government of Davao in partnership with the Davao Volleyball Association under the Philippine
Volleyball Federation. The event is also co-presented by the Sports Development Division-City Mayors Office, Davao City
Sports Council Inc. and Tanduay Athletics, Philippine Sports Commission and Felis Resort Complex.

Warm Blanket For A Cause Gave 105 Blankets, Bath Soaps, Food Packs, Slippers To Prisoners Inside IGACOS Jail

A Roman Catholic non government organization in Baguio City has given away 105 food packs, blankets, slippers and bath soaps to inmates of Island Garden City of Samal Jail in Babak last March 18.
The worthwhile gift giving was spearheaded by Warm Blanket For A Cause lead by its founder and president Glory Marie Sy.
The Archdiosesan Commission on Prion Welfare (ACPW) lead by its president Manny Escuadro, secretary Marian Raquel and member Enrique Umbana also attended the gift giving activity along with some prison officials in IGACOS.
The Warm Blanket For A Cause decided to give blankets to the prisoners because blankets serve as remembrance of the comfort, warmth, security, and the embrace of God's love in times of chilly, stormy, darkened nights of our lives.
The NGO has been providing gifts to various communities all over the Philippines.
The prisoners were very happy with the foods and goodies they receive from the NGO and it give them hope to stay good inside their prison cells.

Junix Allawan Wins Datba Weekly Bowlfest

Davao City based bowler Junix Allawan won P700 after winning the Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association weekly qualifying bowling tournament title at the SM Lanang Premier Bowling Center over
the weekend.
After four games, Allawan scored 840 pinfalls to win the cash prize and a tropy from Datba who organized the bowlfest.
The second place went to Prince Fernandez who won P500 after scring 819 pinfalls.
The third place went to Gab Velasco who pocketed P300 after scoring 811 pinfalls.

Former Agro Sailor Scottie Thompson Leads Initial PBA All Star Balloting

Former Agro Industrial Foundation player Scottie Thompson, who is now playing for the crowd favorite Barangay Ginebra Kings in the Philippine Basketball Association is feeling good these days.
The third-year Barangay Ginebra player emerged No. 1 after the initial balloting for the coming PBA All-Star week, a testament to the spoft-spoken guard's growing popularity.
The University of Perpetual Help alumnus gathered a total of 17,851 votes from online (17,573) and venue (278) ballots combined during the initial voting cutoff for the May 23 to 27 mid-season spectacle.
Thompson bested celebrated players such as Terrence Romeo, Calvin Abueva, June Mar Fajardo, Kiefer Ravena, Japeth Aguilar, LA Tenorio, and even veterans James Yap,  Mark Caguioa, and Marc Pingris.
Thompson, who thanked the fans for making him their top choice,  emerged as the No. 1 player voted to lead Mindanao team against Gilas Pilipinas as they battle each other on May 23 in Davao Del Sur.
The cutoff for voting came before the start of the semis and resumes during the eliminations of the Commissioner’s Cup.
The top five players who get the most number of votes in each team will make the starting unit, while the rest will be selected by the respective coaches.
The league recently released the result of the Top 10 players voted by fans in each of the three teams from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
For Luzon, Aguilar (11,692), Abueva (10,083), Marc Pingris (8,553), LA Tenorio (7,051), Paul Lee (6,880), Jayson Castro (6,566), Mark Caguioa (5,550), Alex Cabagnot (5,129), Marcio Lassiter (5,093), and Arwind Santos (4,972).

Ballano, Usman Wins 13th DATBA Araw ng Dabaw-National Bowling Tournament

Seasoned bowlers Ferdie Ballano and Danny Usman were the big winners in the recent 13th DATBA Araw ng
Dabaw-National Bowling Tournament (NBT) Bowling Tour 2017 Grand Finals held at the SM Lanang Premier Bowling Center.
Ballano won P60,000 cash and a trophy after winning the championship against  Ian Neil Ancheta 213-183.
In the semifinals, Ballano, 32 scored a total of
221 pinfalls in the semifinals, winning over Ancheta’s 205, Mark Li's 189 and Nilo Dagpin's 171 who ended up in the
next three places.
Ballano, a member of Datba is very happy with his win and is focussed on winning his next bowling tournament in Baguio City.
Meanwhile, Usman, also a member of Datba won P50,000 and a trophy after ruling the 13th Araw ng Dabaw Datba crown.
In the championship round, Usman sweep the twice-to-beat Tans Bernas 229-206 and 196-166.

81st Araw ng Dabaw Football Kicks Off On March 24-25

Some of the top football teams in region 11 are expected to join the 81st Araw ng Dabaw Football tournament at the Tionko field.
The football tournament organized by the Davao-South Regional Football Association (DRFA), Inc. in partnership with
the Sports Development Division-City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO) will be held on March 24 and 25.
DRFA officer  Rachelle "Ching" Delos Reyes said the the teams will compete in the following categories: under-17 boys, u17 girls, u13 boys, u9 mixed, u15 boys, and men’s and women's open.
Delos Reyes said medals and trophies await the winners of the tournament intended to celebrate the founding anniversary of Davao City.

San Miguel Alab Pilipinas Beats Saigon Heat Vietnam At USEP Gymnasium

The two game losing streak of San Miguel Alab Pilipinas has finally ended after the home team beat the visiting Saigon Heat, 126-100, on
Wednesday night in the Asean Basketball League (ABL) at the University of Southeastern Philippines gym in Davao City.
Energized by a capacity crowd inside the Usep gymnasium, Alab connected  on a new league-record 18 triples to bring down the Heat in their game.
The 126 points Alab scored against Saigon was also a season-high, eclipsing the Heat’s 121 as the Filipinos bounced back
after successive losses on the road to Westports Malaysia Dragons and Chong Son Kung Fu.
With the victory, Alab Pilipinas joined Mono Vampire Basketball Club in third place, one game behind second placer
Chong Son Kung Fu (13-5).
The top two teams after the eliminations get outright spots in the Final Four.
Controversial Puerto Rican import Renaldo Balkman had 30 points and seven rebounds while Justin Brownlee went 6-of-7 from three-point land and finished with
24 points to go with 13 rebounds, and two blocks.
Brownlee, Paolo Javelona, and Dondon Hontiveros hit triples in a 16-2 run as Alab Pilipinas’ lead swelled to 47-30. By the
third quarter, Alab was already up by 30 points, 101-71.
Alab Pilipinas wound up eclipsing the previous ABL record of 17 triples set by Hong Kong Eastern last year and matched by
Mono Vampire this year.
Saigon fell to 9-9, but clinched the final berth in the playoffs after the Westports Malaysia Dragons (5-12) lost to the
CLS Knights earlier in the night.
The locals also contributed for Alab with Bobby Ray Parks and Pamboy Raymundo scoring 13 points each and Paolo Javelona
tallying 11 points.
Maxie Esho had 24 points while Fil-American Michael Williams had 19 points in his Philippine debut for the Heat.

Nagadala kini ug mga gasa sa pinireso gikan sa Couples for Christ aron lamang mapalipay ug hatagan ug paglaum ang mga tawo sulod sa prisohan niing siyudad.
Pinaagi sa Christian Life Program (CLP) nga gimugna niini sulod sa prisohan naghang mga pinireso ang nagbag-o ug nahatagan ug paglaum ug bagong paglantaw sa kinabuhi.
Dili sab magpanuko si Umbana nga motabang sa mga tawo labi nang katong mga pobre kung mangayo sila ug panabang kaniya.
Tungod sa maayong ginabuhat ni Umbana sa katawhan sa iyahang baarangay malipayon nga naglantaw ang Ginoo sa mga ginabuhat niiningg tawhana nga walay duha-duha nga motabang sa mga tawong nangayo ug tabang.

Sa edad nga 59 masulti nato nga kontento na sa iyahang kinabuhi si Ricky Umbana, residente block 28, Lot 19, NHA, Maa, Davao City kauban sa iyang pamilya.
Si Umbana, nga lumad sa Barobo, Surigao del Sur usa sa mga tao nga nihatag sa iyahang oras ug serbesyo aron motabang sa mga pinereso suod sa Maa City Jail sa siyudad sa Davao.
Isip Prison Ministry coordinator of Couples for Christ sa Davao niadtong tuig 2000 hangtud sa kasamtangan, si Umbana ug iyahang mga kauban nakapatukod ug mga balay alang sa mga babaeng pinereso sa tabang usab sa mga non government organization.
Nakapatukod sad ug kapilya sulod sa City Jail ang grupo ni Umbana.
Nagpahigayon sad ug Christian Life Program (CLP) si Umbana sa mga pinereso aron mamahimo pa silang suod sa Ginoo.
Sa kasamtangan nagpadayon si Umbana sa pagserbisyo sa mga pinereso kay nagtuo kini ang mga pinireso nanginahanglan sad ug gugma ug tabang gikan sa mga taong gawas sa prisohan.

Davao City Arnis Team Gets 16 Gold Medals In Batang Pinoy

The Davao City arnis team has a massive gold haul in the recently concluded  Batang Pinoy Mindanao Leg arnis competition held at the San Vicente Bajo covered
court in Oroquieta City.
Davao City gathered 16 gold medals in Batang Pinoy lead by the four gold medal performance of John Carl Miguel Arangoso.
Arangoso swept the boys 13-15 traditional anyo individual double weapon, boys 13-15 +40 kilograms-45 kilograms padded sticks and boys 13-15
non-traditional anyo individual golds.
Aragoso also paired with John Lloyd Calubag to win the boys 13-15 traditional anyo team single weapon gold.
Another Davaoeno Doland Feb Apas also got three golds.
Apas won the boys 13-15 non-traditional anyo individual event and boys 13-15 40 kilogram and below padded sticks. Apas  also partered with John Lloyd Calubag to win the
boys 13-15 traditional anyo event team double event gold.
Czar Alfred Corsame for his part won. Corsame won the gold in boys 13-15 traditional anyo individual open event.
He also won the boys 13-15 +55 kilograms-60 kilograms padded
sticks gold.
The other golds of Davao City came from: Khim Nyle Ubal (girls 13-15 traditional anyo individual single weapon),
Eishen Borinaga, Ubal, Arangoso, Calubag (non traditional mixed), Borinaga (traditional anyo individual open),
Czaraleen Corsame (girls non-traditional anyo individual open), Byrone Jyde Diems (boys traditional anyo idividual single
weapon), Alfrench Villegas (boys 12-15 +45 kilograms-50 kilograms padded sticks) and the boys full contact padded sticks team.


Tagum Girl Wins 10 Medals In Batang Pinoy

A 10-year-old lass from Tagum City, Davao del Norte has earned praise after she collected 10 medals in the recently concluded Batang Pinoy Mindanao Games in Oroquieta City,Misamis Occidental.
Chelsea Lumapay got nine gold medals and one bronze in the arnis competition in Batang Pinoy.
Lumapay whose older brother also plays arnis is very happy with her achievement since it is only her second time to compete in Batang Pinoy.
Her Batang Pinoy stint last year is not fruitful since she ended up without any medals.
with her win, Lumapay is very excited to compete in the Batang Pinoy national finals.
Aside from Batang Pinoy, Lumapay will also compete in Palarong Pambansa in Vigan, Ilocos Norte next month.

Assumption College of Davao (ACD) Baby Warriors Will Play In Smart Breakdown Basketball Invitationals

Newly crowned JS Cup Mini division champion Assumption College of Davao Baby Warriors hopes to bring honor to Davao City when they compete in the Smart Breakdown Basketball Invitationals in San Juan City starting today (March 13).
The Baby Warriors will compete against five other teams in the 12 and under division in the tournament from March 13-17.
Assumption will face Xavier Univesity (the host school),  Bukidnon Faith Christian School, St. Thomas Moore Academy, and San Miguel Elementary School.
The baby Warriors to be coached by  Edwin Villarente are made up of Mikaell Joseph, Cedric Taray, Adonis Cerna, Abner Demoni Jr., Tav Suico, Mhilby Joseph, Adriane Macavinta, Enrico Macavinta, Miggy Caneda, Rafael Tarongoy, Andrei Villalba, Jose Anuada, Nathaniel Jose Biliran, LJ Losdoc, and Luigi Rosello.
Breakdown Basketball is a brainchild of former Ateneo varsity player Yuri Escueta in 2015.

Toril Lass Wins 3 Golds In 2018 Batang Pinoy

A 15-year-old girl from Toril, Davao City is one of the bright spots for Davao City in the ongoing Batang Pinoy Mindanao Leg athletics competition in Misamis Occidental Provincial Athletics Center (Mopac) in Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental.
Andea Annabela De Guia just captured her third gold medal in the athletics contest after she won the  girls 13-15 400-meter dash gold.
De Guia, a student of  Doña Carmen Denia National High School, registered one minute and two seconds to capture
the girls 13-15 400-meter dash gold.
The daughter of a single parent mother beat Sweet Joy Pantaleon (1:06) of Koronadal City and Mel Joy Gonzales of Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte (1:07), who won
the silver and bronze, respectively.
De Guia has earlier won the gold medals in  3,000m and 1,500m.
The young student is very pleased with her multiple gold medals but she looks forward to add two more golds in her remaining team events in athletics.
She is very grateful to  her coach and trainer, teammates and the City Government of Davao for sending her here and providing athletes support in meals, uniforms and transportation.

Davao del Norte Takes Lead In 2018 Batang Pinoy Mindanao Leg


The delegation from Davao del Norte is currently on top of the medal standings in the ongoing  Batang Pinoy Mindanao Leg at Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental.
Davao del Norte currently has 11 golds, six silvers and eight bronzes to take the initial lead in the medal tally.
Nine of the gold medals of Davao del Norte came from swimming.
The gold medal haul of Davao del Norte in swimming came from  Ronel Gerard Cucharo (boys 12-under 100m freestyle, 200m backstroke), Blu Cabilete (boys 13-15 50m backstroke), Abbsaer Saggap
(boys 12-under 1,500m freestyle, 400m individual medley), Mary Grace Batalla (girls 12-under 100m butterfly,
200m backstroke), Selwyn Rex Cinunay (boys 13-15 200m backstroke) and Cassandra Yumi Bagarra (girls 13-15 400m IM).
The second place went to Koronadal City, which garnered nine golds, eight silvers and six bronzes.
Davao City is currently in third place with (6-3-0).

(5-6-7) fourth, General Santos City (5-4-10), fifth, Dipolog City (5-2-1) sixth, Zamboanga City (5-0-5) seventh,

Sto. Tomas wins 2 Gold Medals In 2018 Batang Pinoy

The delegation from Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte has collected two gold medals in the athletics competition in the ongoing Batang Pinoy Mindanao Leg at the Misamis Occidental Provincial Athletics Center (Mopac) in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental.
Aaron Gumban, a 13-year-old son of an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in Dubai won the gold medal in the secondary boys 5,000–meter.
Gumba,a  Grade 7 student of Sto. Tomas National High School beat Mark Rommel Hubag of South Cotabato and Nikos Mampaundag of Davao del Norte who settled for the gold and silver.
A first timer in Batang Pinoy, Gumban is very happy with his win and he looks forward in winning another gold when he competes in the Batang Pinoy National Championships in Baguio City in September.
Having won his first gold medal in Batang Pinoy, Gumban also hopes to win the gold in his remaining events – 1,500m and 2,000m steeplechase.
Like most athletes, Gumban also hopes to compete in Palarong Pambansa in the future and get a scholarship in athletics in a prestigious univesity in Metro Manila.
After Gumban's golden performance, Adriane Hanz Tapporco also won the gold medal in the boys shot put event.
The Sto Tomas athlete heaved the iron ball to a distance of 11.51 meters to win the gold over  Khryss Rae Baroman of General Santos City (10.86m) and Renante Catayas of Sindangan (10.71m).

National Master From Zamboanga City Wins 81st Araw ng Dabaw Fide-Rated Rapid Open Chess Championships

A National Master (NM) from Zamboanga won P20,000 cash and trophy after emerging as over-all champion in the recent  81st Araw ng
Dabaw Fide-Rated Rapid Open Chess Championships held at the Damosa Market Basket in Lanang, Davao City.
Joey Albert Florendo beat fellow seven pointer Jhonnel Balquin of Cagayan de Oro City to win the crown in the chessfest supported by the City Government of Davao, Fide Gens Una Sumus, Market Basket and
the National Chess Federation of the Philippines.
Balquin ended up as second placer in the tournament while Harrison Maamo (6.5) took the third place.
Meanwhile, Wesley Jovan Magbanua,  a 12-year-old scholar of Jose Maria College brought smiles to Davao City after winning the  the top kiddie award.
Two other Davaeonos won also special awards in the chessfest.
Hareve Sumatra won the    top junior award after outclassing Jasper Erum and Hur Papas.
Exiquila Apao for her part won the p female award over Samantha Umayan and Mel Angelie Bariquit.

Davao City Makes It To NBTC National Finals In Metro Manila

Davao City is set to represent Southern Mindanao in the national finals of the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) in Metro Manila this year.
This developed after the host Davao City beat the visiting General Santos City in the Regional Finals of NBTC at the  University of Mindanao gym in Matina 105-89.
The team which is composed of players from Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) and Assumption College of Davao (ACD) played tough on its home turn to beat the Gensan based team who is represented by Holy Trinity College.
Addu hotshot shooter Lawrence Marione Angeles scored 29 points highlighted by eight three-pointers to carry Davao to victory.
With his brilliant effort in the finals Angeles was given the most valuable player award in the tournament.
Fellow Addu player Axel Doromal also added 20 points for Davao in their win.
ACD players  BJ Sumugat and
Jory Velarde also chipped in 16 and 14 points, respectively in their win.
The rest of the champion team are the following: AJ Royo, Marvin Vistal,
Leonard Salvame, Alejandre Positos, Christian Malano, Aaron Gellard Lapating, Arnold John FrenceHeje, Jamal Bandalan,
Gabriel Adrian Lazarraga, Austee Carl Talisayan and Lex Francis Blanco.
ACD coach Rollie Sancho is very happy with their win and he vowed that his team will do their best to have good showing in Manila.



Tagum and Digos Schools Barges Into Win Column In 2018 Escandor Cup

Two schools outside of Davao City are making an immidiate impact in the ongoing Escandor Cup 2018 Invitational Basketball
Tournament held at the Davao City Recreation Center formerly Almendras Gym.
On Saturday the visiting St. Mary's College of Tagum (SMCT) and Cor Jesu College of Davao (CJC) eked separate victories against two basketball powerhouse teams in Davao City.
The Tagum City, Davao del Norte based SMCT beat Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) 81-74.
The team from Digos City, Davao del Sur CJC for its part beat  Assumption College of Davao 128-122, via overtime.
On the same day the Holy  Child College of Davao (HCCD) and Davao Jones Academy also won their games in the tournament  presented by Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas
(SBP) regional director Glenn Escandor.
HCCD got their initial win in the cagefest after beating  Philippine Academy of Sakya Davao (PASD) 97-66.
DJA for its part beat Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School 92-76.
The basketball tournament features some of the top high school basketball teams in Davao region.

Assumption College of Davao (ACD) Warriors Wins 2018 JS Cup Mini Division Crown

The Assumption College of Davao (ACD) Warriors has once again proved that they are one of the basketball powerhouses in Davao City.
This developed after ACD won the championship in the mini division in the recently-concluded Gaisano Grand Cup Season 15 dubbed as
"The Game of the Rising Stars” held at the Gaisano Grand Citimall Sky gym.
The team coached by Edwin Villarente eked out a 71-67 win against Matina Central Elementary School (MCES) to win the championship in the longest running basketball league in Davao City.
Tournament most valuable player Mikaell Joseph scored 16 points in the finals to tow his team to victory against MCES.
Joseph's teammate  Cedric Taray and Adonis Cerna also scored 16 and 15 points respectively in the championship game.
The other members of the champion team are the following: Abner Demoni Jr., Tav Suico, Mhilby Joseph, Adriane Macavinta, Enrico Macavinta, Miggy Caneda, Rafael Tarongoy, Andrei Villalba, Jose Anuada, Nathaniel Jose Biliran, LJ Losdoc, and Luigi Rosello.
Meanwhile, ACD's junior girls’ team also won the girls division after beating
Cabantian National High School in the finals.

Jose Maria College Notches 2nd Win In Escandor Cup

The Jose Maria College Kings remain undefeated after two games in the ongoing Escandor Cup 2018 Invitational Basketball Tournament held at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.
Over the weekend, the Kings defeated the Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) Bulldogs, 71-50 to remain 2-0 in their bracket in the tournament  sanctioned by the
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) Davao Chapter.
The Kings earlier defeated Assumption College of Davao (ACD) Warriors, 85-54.
In the other games, the Philippine Academy of Sakya Davao (PASD) Dragons demolished the Agro Industrial Foundation College (AIFC) Sailors, 76-57.
Ford Academy of Arts (FAA) Dribblers beat Lamb of God Sped Academy (LGSA)
Saints, 81-76. The Bernardo Carpio National High School (BCNHS) Sandstorms clobbered
Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School of Davao (PNJKISD), 63-54, as the
Holy Cross College of Sasa (HCCS) beat Philppine Women's College (PWC) Patriots, 85-59.

Six Davao Chessers Got Palaro Slot After Wonderful Performance In 2018 Davraa

Six promising chess players from Davao City will represent the Davao region in the Palarong Pambansa in Vigan City, Ilocus Sur next month.
The six players got the slot after they finished champion and second placers in the chess competition in the recent Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2018 at the Gaisano Mall of Toril.
Wesley Jovan Magbanua of Jose Maria College (JMC) won the gold medal in the secondary boys division.
Irish Yngayo and Ryan Gabriel Rasay of Davao City Special School (DCSS) for their part ruled the secondary girls and elementary boys divisions.
Meanwhile,  Blanche Ellyz Bongato of Stella Maris Academy of Davao (Smad), Lieane Faith Salajudin of (DCC) and
Ateneo de Davao University (Addu)'s Marv Denzil Rubio settled for silvers in the five-round Swiss System format
standard event.
Bongato settled for second place in the secondary girls division.
Salajudin for her part finished second in the in the elementary girls division.
Rubio, on the otherhand took the silver in the elementary division.
