DAVAO CITY — After two days of intense hardwood action, the Agro Sailors emerged as the undisputed champions of the Inter-Collegiate Basketball League held in Barangay San Antonio, Agdao District, as part of the celebration of the 35th Araw ng Barangay.
Held from June 24 to 25, the tournament featured some of the city’s top collegiate squads, with the Sailors powering their way to the championship after defeating the Jose Maria College Kings in a thrilling final match.
With the win, the Agro Sailors not only claimed bragging rights and the championship trophy, but also took home a P15,000 cash prize. The JMC Kings, who put up a valiant effort throughout the tournament, settled for runner-up honors and a P10,000 cash reward.
The Ateneo de Davao University and Philippine Women’s College also showed strong performances and were awarded P7,000 and P5,000, respectively.
The basketball league was spearheaded by Barangay Captain Roger Galido, a former basketball player himself, who said the tournament was part of their efforts to promote youth engagement and community spirit through sports.
“This tournament is not just about competition,” Galido said. “It’s about camaraderie, discipline, and giving our youth the platform to shine and grow.”
With the success of this year's tournament, Barangay San Antonio continues to build a legacy of athletic excellence and community celebration through its Araw ng Barangay festivities.(Bob Braceros)
