HALONG CITY, VIETNAM — Rising Filipino chess star and Mindanaoan prodigy FIDE Master (FM) Christian Gian Carlo Arca claimed the championship title at the prestigious 2025 Quang Ninh International Master Tournament, held from June 6 to 12 in Halong City, Vietnam.
Arca scored an impressive 6 points out of 9 games, showcasing a consistent and strategic performance that saw his live rating climb to 2409, a significant milestone for the young master.
As champion, Arca took home a trophy, medal, token, and USD 200 in cash, adding to his growing list of international accomplishments.
A proud resident of one of the cities in the Davao Region, Arca continues to elevate the Philippines’ name in global chess, proving that Filipino talent can compete with the world’s best.
However, despite his consistent success in global tournaments, it was revealed that Arca has yet to receive any financial support or recognition from the local government unit (LGU) where he resides.
