DAVAO CITY---A 48-year-old veteran trail runner in Barangay Maa here brought honor to the city and the Philippines after he placed second in the tough 26 Virtual Run in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last June 16.
Dodong Vertudazo won second place in the 42 kilometer category of the race with a time of three hours, 39 minutes and 17 seconds.
The category was won by Hlonipha Khawula of Republic of South Africa.
Vertudazo won certificate as prize in the competition.
A virtual race is a race that can be run (or walked) from any location you choose using an online application.
You get to run your own race, at your own pace, and time it yourself.
In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, many local, national and international races are organizing virtual run to allow runners the chance to continue running at their own home without getting infected with the virus.
Last August 17,2019, Vertudazo also won the Salomon XTrail 2019 event at the grounds of Crocodile Park here.
He won the 30 kilometer trail course of the race which was organized as part of the 34th Kadayawan sports calendar.
Vertudazo, finished the race in three hours and 58 minutes.
The veteran trail runner won P2,000 and a pair of Salomon shoes for his feat.
Vertudazo is very pleased with his win since the race is tough as it involves a climb of 70 degrees, knee-high streams, and muddy trails.
