Young Davaoeno chessers IM John Marvin Miciano, Samantha Umayan recognized in 26th So Kim Cheng Sports Foundation Awards



DAVAO CITY---Two of the promising young chess players in Davao City were given awards in the 26th So Kim Cheng Sports Foundation Awards last July 22 and 23 at Eskina at BizPark in Lanang Business Park, here.
International master (IM) John Marvin Miciano and Samantha Umayan were recognized for bringing honor to Davao City in the sport of chess last year.
Miciano, who also got the  25th SKC male athlete of the year last year, was cited for being a  champion in the in the Philippine qualifying tournament of the Asian Junior Online Chess 2020-Zone 3.3.
Miciano, a chess scholar of Far Eastern University in College also won a silver in Eastern Asia Junior Chess Championship and swept one gold, three silvers and one bronze in the
Asean Age-Group Chess Championships.
The 13-year-old Umayan for her part was honored for winning three silvers in the 29th Asean+ Age Group Chess Championships 2019.
Umayan was also cited for getting a silver in the National Age Group Chess Championships Visayas Leg, among her other achievements.
The annual SKC Sports Awards was created to recognize the feats of homegrown athletes in different sports who have made a mark in various competitions.Romeo Braceros Jr.
