Winners In NCCC Kids Bowling Tourney Announced

Young Davaoeno bowlers Jose Lorenzo Ymbang, Jesly Keziah Palacio and Teodoro Miguel Saranza are the big winners in the recent NCCC Young Bowlers Christmas Fun Game held at the NCCC Mall B3 Center Lanes, Davao City.

Ymbang won the 16-21 years old category after scoring 271 pinfalls in two games.The second to fourth places were occupied respectively by Gerard Consolacion (244), Raymond Ian Consolacion (230) and Raul Miyadaira (227).

Palacio for his part won the 12-15 years old category with his score of 239 pinfalls.  The second to fourth places went to Marc Lester Nano, Urikoe Christoffe Uy and Jerome Caballes respectively.
After two games Nano scored  217 while Uy made 212 pinfalls and Caballes at 207.

Meanwhile, Saranza won the 7-11 years old category after scoring  204 pinfalls.The second to fourth places went to Zacahary Lorenzo Sulit (202), Adrian Altair Deiparine (162) and Liam Andrei Alegria (160).  The winners went home with a trophy and 10 bowling gift certificates courtesy of the NCCC B3 Center Lanes.

Lumacad Loses Christmas Day Match In Malaysia

Davaoeno Mixed Martial Arts fighter Benjie Lumacad is ending 2016 on a sad note.

This developed after Lumacad loses to Isroiljon Rasulov of Uzbekistan via referee stoppage in the first round of the semi-finals showdown of the One Silat Championship 2016 Road To Glory held last December 25 at the Nicol David Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The end for Lumacad came in two minutes and 37 seconds of action after his favored opponent pound him to submission. Lumacad tried to use his trademark over head punch but it did not hurt his opponent who instead attacked and brought him to the ground.

Lumacad's manager Paolo Tancontian said prior to his match, Lumacad had to sweat out four kilograms of excess weight in just four hours to reach the accurate weight before the weigh-in.

Lumacad is sad with his loss but he vowed to train even harder to win his next MMA match.

Boy, 5 Shoots Self With Grandpa's Gun


A five-year-old boy landed on the hospital after he accidentally shot himself with a gun owned by his grandfather at their house in San Nicholas, Buhangin, Davao City. The Buhangin Police identified the victim as Terbie Arangcon who accidentally shoot himself to the foot around 11 a.m. of December 25.

In the initial police investigation, the victim was ordered by his grandfather to get his gun but the child accidentally pulled the trigger of the firearm while carrying it. The victim was immediately rushed to the  Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) for treatment where he is not now in stable condition. The parents of the victim has no intention of filing a case a case against their own kin due to the accident.

Padada Native Scottie Thompson Is 4th In PBA Rebounding Leaders

Mindanaoan and fast rising Philippine Basketball Association sophomore guard Scottie Thompson is currently in the fourth place in ongoing PBA Philippine Cup.

Thompson, a native of Padada, Davao del Sur is averaging 10 rebounds per game for the Barangay Ginebra Kings just below behemoths June Mar Fajardo, Raymund Almazan, and Sean Anthony. In the Kings victory over the Star Hotshots on Christmas day 86-79, Thompson came through with a career-high in rebounds.

The 6-foot-1, Thompson snared a career-high 17 rebounds to beat out certified board crashers Marc Pingris (16) and even 6-foot-9 teammate Japeth Aguilar (10). His effort also helped the Kings beat the Hotshots off the glass, 54-47.

Thompson, as usual, played down the feat, saying he merely focused on other aspects of the game since he didn’t really have a great offensive night for the Kings. The sophomore guard was 0 for 5 from the field, but finished with five points by shooting 5 of 8 from the foul line. “Dinadaan ko lang sa sipag,” said the 23-year-old cager.

Peter June Simon Is Part Of PBA 50 All-Time Scoring List

Former University of Mindanao Wildcats player Peter June Simon is feeling great this Yuletide season. This developed after the 12-year Philippine Basketball Association veteran has made it to the All-time top 50 scoring list.

Simon said making it to the elite list in the top professional basketball league in the Philippines is Christmas gift to him. He revealed that he felt grateful to the blessing since he never imagined that playing in the barangay leagues will make him be part of the history of PBA.

As one of the oldest players in the Star Hotshots team, Simon said he has taken the role of mentor to their younger players. Simon said losing James Yap made him and the rest of the Star Hotshots to work even harder for them to be successful. The Star Hotshots management has earlier traded Yap to the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in exchange for Paul Lee.

Buwan ng Wika sa Maa Christian Learning Center Nagmalampuson

Nahimong malampuson ang kuliminasyon sa selebrasyon sa buwan ng wika sa Maa Christian Learning Center bag-ohay pa lamang. Usa ka nindot ug alegring presentasyon sa sayaw ug kanta nga gipakita sa estudyante sa eskuwelahan sa Bugac, Barangay Maa sa nahuman nga kulminasyon sa Buwan ng Wika.



Nagpakita sa ilahang talento sa pagsayaw ug pagkanta ang mga estudyante aron ipabuhayag unsa kaimportante ang atong lingguahe nga Filipino sa atong kinabuhi. Tanan nga estudyante sa eskuwelahan gikan nursery hangtud grade six ang niapil sa gihimong programa sa eskuwelahan.

Puno ug kalipay dili lamang ang estudyante ug titser sa MCLC pati sab ang mga ginikanan tungod sa maayong presentasyon ang gipakita sa ilahang mga anak. Usa sa dili malimtan nga pasundayag sa programa ang balagtasan nga gisalmutan sa tulo sa estudyante sa grade six.



Sa nahimong balagtasan o debate gipakita ang importansiya sa atong wikang Filipino ug ang wikang Ingles. Dili sad malimtan ang shadow play nga gipakita sa piniling mga estudyante sa grade five.
Tungod sa malampusong kulminasyon sa Buwan ng Wika mapasalamaton kaayo si Edwin Zafra, administrador sa eskuwelahan sa mga esudyante, titser ug ginikanan sa ilahang presentasyon ug presensiya sa programa. Malaumon si Zafra nga pinaagi sa programa mas higugmaon pa sa mga kabataan ang atong lingguwaheng Filipino.

Southshield FC Kampeon Sa SOS Football Festival

Gipamatudan nasad sa Southshield Football Club nga isa sila sa mga maayong football tims sa Davao City human gibulsa ang kampeonato sa bagohay lamang nahuman nga SOS Football Festival sa Crocodile Park Football field.

Nakuha sa 8 and under sa Southshield ang kampeonato human gipildi ang Hyenas sa finals 3-0.
Ang 8 and under tim nga gi-coach ni Greg Napuran gilangkuban nila Jian Matthew Goyonan, Karlos Daniel Donado, Yuan Jacob Guingguing, Nigel Balagon, Rhythm Demecillo, Ruzhen Villarmia, Luiz Digman, John Narra, Anthony Elorde, Dwayne James Kierulf ug Luiz Arellano.

Davaoeno MMA Fighter Will Fight In Malaysia On Christmas Day

Davaoeno Mixed Martial Arts  fighter Benjie Lumacad is set to fight at the Nicol David Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on December 25.

Lumacad is set to compete at the One Silat World Championships 2016 Road to Glory semifinals against Isaroiljon Rasulov of Uzbekistan in the bantamweight division. At the moment Lumacad is already 95 percent ready for his match against his sambo veteran opponent.

Ace Larida, the coach of Lumacad said his ward has a good chance of beating his opponent in their match. As a former boxer, Larida hoped Lumacad will use his over-head punch to beat his opponent.

Assumption College To Represent Davao City In CEAP Basketball Tourney

The Assumption College of Davao (ACD) Warriors will represent Davao City in the forthcoming 2017 Catholic Education Association of the Philippines (Ceap) basketball tournament from January 4-8 in Zamboanga City.

The warriors got the slot after the Ateneo de Davao University Blue Knights High School basketball team who was originally tasked to represent the city has begged off from joining the tournament next year. Warriors head coach Rollie Sancho said no less than the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) invited them to the tournament which they accepted.

Sancho revealed to make his team competitive they are practicing daily for them to be 100 prepared in the tournament. He said the defending champion Butuan and host Zamboanga are considered as two of the strong teams in the tournament. The ACD Warriors are made up of BJ Sumugat, AJ Royo, Jaamal Bandalan, Arnold John Frend Heje, Chris Marvin Vistal, AJ Cenion, Jude Omana, Leonard Salvame, Aaron Lapating, Paul Malamo, Rene Yucampo, Gabriel Lazaraga, Jory Velarde, Carl Gudmalin and Alejandre Positos.

Trader In Drugs Watch List Shot Dead In Digos City

A 38-year-old businessman who was is listed in the police drug list was shot dead by unidentified motorcycle riding gunmen at the national highway in Barangay Tres de Mayo,  Digos City, Davao del Sur.

The Digos City Police Office identified the victim as Fernando Asutilla, a resident of Barangay Upper Kiagot, Digos City who was shot dead by the nameless suspects around 6:45 p.m. of December 17. In the initial police investigation, the victim was riding his motorcycle from Bansalan town towards Digos City when the suspects riding another motorcycle shot him repeatedly leading to his immediate death.

The suspects hurriedly escaped towards an unknown direction after the killing. The police said the victim was part of the drug list in his barangay but he refused to surrender to the authorities.

Authorities are still conducting a deeper investigation on the killing as of the moment.

Nighclub manager shot dead In Panabo City


A 41-year-old manager of a nightclub was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle riding gunmen at his workplace in Panabo Central Public Market, Barangay New Pandan, Panabo City, Davao del Norte. The Panabo City Police Office identified the victim as Roy Laude, manager of Ariel's Beerhouse who was shot dead by the nameless suspects around 2:10 a.m. of December 17.

In the initial police investigation, the victim was just seating in a chair in-front of the nightclub when the suspects arrived and shot him repeatedly. The victim instantly died in the attack as the suspects escaped towards an unknown direction after the killing. Authorities are still investigating the shooting incident as of the moment.

Kapalong Runner Runs Barefoot In BP Games

A 13-year-old girl runner from Kapalong, Davao del Norte has captured the heart of netizens including sports celebrities because she prefer to run barefoot in her running events.

Princess Dian Penaranda captured th attention of many after she was seen competing barefoot in the 100 meter dash under the scorching heat of the sun at the oval of the Sports and Tourism Complex in Tagum City, Davao del Norte. Asked by reporters why she will compete barefoot, Penaranda said she just prefer to run that way because she is comfortable with it.

The photo of Penaranda in barefoot while waiting for the start of her running event elicited many responses from netizens including Kiefer Ravena who offered to send her shoes. PBA player Rob Reyes and former Gilas skipper Jimmy Alapag also retweeted the photo, with Alapag adding a caption: "No athlete in our country should have to compete like this."

The young athlete however said she run barefoot not because her parents could not afford to buy her shoes but simply because she feels comfortable running without shoes. "Di po ako nagsusuot ng sapatos kahit sa ibang competitions (di naman nahihirapan)," Penaranda said. Sadly finished dead last in her heat which disqualifies her from competing in the next round of competition.

HCDC Crusaders Targets DCCL Crown


After producing the lone gold medal for Davao City in the recent BIMP-EAGA basketball tournament, the Holy Cross of Davao College Crusaders is hoping to end 2016 with another basketball title.

Crusaders coach Ice Gravador said his team is hoping to win the forthcoming Davao City Collegiate League (DCCL) which stars at the last week of December. Gravador said after winning in the BIMP-EAGA tournament his players are very confident they can also snatch the crown at DCCL against other top collegiate teams in the city. The Crusaders earlier won the crown at BIMP-EAGA after finishing 4-0 and getting the highest point in the tournament.

Gravador said to beat the other teams in Southeast Asia he told his players that they are not only representing the school but the whole Philippines as well since we are the powerhouse in the sport of basketball in Southeast Asia.

Davao del Norte Will 3 More Big Tourney After Batang Pinoy 2016


After the successful Batang Pinoy 2016 National Championship the province of Davao del Norte is set to host three more big sports competitions in the next three years. Davao del Norte governor Anthony del Rosario said the province will host a national triathlon competition next year, the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asian Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Games in 2018; and the South East Asian Games in 2019.

Del Rosario said he is happy that the dream of his father former governor Rodolfo Del Rosario that the  Davao del Norte Sports and Complex in Tagum City can host big sporting events is now a reality.He said with the successful hosting of Batang Pinoy his province is now ready to host big sporting events in the future.

The governor also reiterated that that his administration will support sports all the way because he believes sports promotes bright future for the youth.

28 Ka Boy Scouts sa Maa Christian Learning Center Niapil Sa BSP Jamboree sa Malagos


Biente utso ka mga Boy Scouts sa Maa Christian Learning Center ang niapil sa bagohay lamang nahuman nga Council Wide Jamboree sa Malagos, Baguio District, Davao City. Ang Jamboree nga giapilan sa sobra 3,000 nga boy scouts sa tibuok Davao City gipahigayon niadtong October 12-16 ug gipasugdahan sa Boy Scouts of the Philippines.



Ang mga boy scouts sa MCLC nga nahimutang sa Bugac, Barangay Maa gilangkuban sa grades 4,5 ug 6. Gipahigayon ang jamboree aron bansayon ang mga boy scouts aron mamahimong responsableng miyembro sa komunidad.

Daghan mga aktibidades ang gihimo sa BSPhilippines aron mamahimong malampuson ang jamboree subay sa tema Growth and Stability. Holy Child Takes 3rd Place In Milo Passerelle Tourney


The Holy Child College of Davao took third place honors in the recent BEST Center SBP-Passerelle 2016 Twin Tournament sponsored by Milo in Bacolod City.

The Davao City based basketball team beat Lucena City's International School of Better Beginnings, 75-56, to bag third place in the annual tournament among young basketeers of the Philippines. Holy Child failed to reach the Finals after losing to the defending champion Adamson University Baby Falcons 63-28 and to Bacolod Tay Tung High School followed 67-60.

Both Adamson and Tay Tung reached the championship round of the tournament. Despite their failure to reach the finals Holy Child are still happy because they were able to salvage a third place finish in the tournament.

Drug Crazed Man Rapes Old Lady In Kapalong

A criminal case has been filed against a drug crazed 29-year-old man for raping a 71-year-old woman inside her house in Barangay Sampao, Kapalong, Davao del Norte. The Kapalong Municipal Police sued Filmer Alvarez for rape for raping the victim early morning of December 10.

In the initial police investigation, the victim was sleeping inside her room when the suspect armed with a knife go on top of her. The old lady suffered a slight wound on her breast when she resisted the attack.

The sexual assaul was witnessed by one of the sons of the victim who mauled the suspect. The police said the suspect is a known marijuana user in their place.

Magsaysay Teacher Gets 7th Spot In LET


An education graduate in Magsaysay, Davao del Sur has placed seventh in the recent Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) in the secondary level. Carmelo Cueme Banlasan Jr., a native of Barangay San Miguel here and who is still turning 21 on December 31, was the top seven (7) for the secondary level with a rating of 88.60 percent.

Banlasan is a consistent honor student, having graduated valedictorian from elementary (San Miguel Elementary School) to high school (Holy Cross of Magsaysay) and a cum laude of San Pedro College in Davao City. After college graduation, while reviewing at the St. Louis Review Center he was working as a tutor.

The local council in Magsaysay has recently passed a resolution commending Banlasan for his dedication, focus, determination, confidence and intelligence, Banlasan did not just pass the September Licensure Examination for Secondary Teachers but also topped it as the 7th Placer among all 92,754 examinees.

“The efforts of this topnotcher can serve as an inspiration to the entire youth and students population of our municipality, on how to achieve their aspirations through dedication and excellence,” the resolution added.

The Board Exam for teachers is the government Licensure Examination for both Elementary and Secondary Teachers under the directions and supervisions of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). It is held twice a year. The result of the September 25, 2016 licensure exam was only released last November 28, 2016.

Davao Boxing Gold Medalist Idolizes Donaire


While most young boxers today idolizes Manny Pacman Pacquiao the lone boxing gold medallist from Davao City in the recent 2016 Batang Pinoy in Tagum City, Davao Del Norte has a different idol. Junmilardo Ogayre winner in the junior boys’ lightweight said he wants to follow in the footstep of the Filipino flash Nonito Donaire, Jr.

“Gusto ko si­yang lumaban, malakas at ‘yung timing niya,” said the 17-year-old Crimino­logy major of the University of Mindanao. Ogayre won the gold earlier after beating in the Finals Jerald Into of Zamboanga del Sur via unanimous decision at the Tagum City Trade and Cultural Center.

The aspiring professional boxer who started boxing at nine years old is the sixth among eight sibling.
Prior to his Batang Pinoy gold Ogayre has earlier won the gold in the Davao Region Athletic Association Meet and Mindanao Boxing Cup. “Pangarap kong mag-national team, tapos mag-professional din gaya ni Donaire,” Ogayre added.

Davao Wushu Team Takes 3rd Place In Batang Pinoy Nat'l Championships


The Davao Wushu Team placed third in the just concluded Batang Pinoy 2016 National Championships wush and sanda tournament at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City on Wednesday.

Davao City took home four golds and four bronzes in the tournament participated in by some of the top wushu teams in the country. The gold medals for the team were provided by Jennifer Kilapio, Angelica Mae Datulayta, Nhaya Mahal Paden and Clyde Roderos.

The bronze medals on the otherhand were produced by Christian Ental, Ronald Ferraren, John Paulo Galvan and Jerome Vasquez. Coach Chryster Terado is very pleased with the performance of his team since most of the, are just new to the team.

Southshield FC Wins Football Tourney In Tagum City


Davao based Southshield Football Club won the championship in the 2016 Football For Life football tournament in Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Mankilam, Tagum City.

The Barangay Maa based squad beat Hyenas Football club 3-2  to win the crown in the 8 and under division of the said football tournament. In the finals Jian Matthew Goyonan scored two goals to carry his team to victory against Hyenas who is also a Davao City based football club.

Goyonan's cousin Karlos Daniel Donado also scored one point to help Southshield in their win which was made sweeter by the presence of some of the member of the Philippine Azkals who is also one of the organizers of the football event. The Southshield team who is coached by former University of Mindanao goal keeper Greg Napuran also includes Yuan Jacob Guingguing, Anthony Elorde, Luuis Digman, Rhythm Demecillo and goal keeper Ruzchen Villarmia.

The members of the Southshield Football Club lead by their coach Greg Napuran were all smiles after winning the 2016 Football For Life football tournament in Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Mankilam, Tagum City.

Prison Official Shot Dead In Carmen


A 36-year-old official of the  Davao Penal Colony (DAPECOL) was shot dead by unidentified motorcycle riding gunmen in Purok 20, Barangay Ising, Carmen, Davao del Norte yesterday morning.

The Carmen Municipal Police identified the victim as Willie Develos Plasabas, administrative officer of DAPECOL who was shot dead by the nameless suspects morning of December 8. In the initial police investigation, the victim was riding his motorcycle when the suspects riding another motorcycle shot him repeatedly to the different parts of his body.

The victim was immediately rushed to Carmen District Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physicians. The suspects hurriedly escaped towards an unknown direction after the killing. Authorities are still conducting a deeper investigation on the killing as of the moment.



Guv Praises Talaingod's Tough Stance Vs. CDO In Women's Volleyball


The tough stance of the little known Talaingod women's volleyball team against the volleybelles from Cagayan de Oro City in recently concluded  Batang Pinoy 2016 National Championship has earned praise from Davao del Norte governor Anthony del Rosario.

Del Rosario said the 17 and under volleybelles from Talaingod gave the taller and more experienced players from Cagayan de Oro City a run for their money before losing 25-23, 25-23. He said Talaingod, a far-flung town of Davao del Norte surprised the city based team from the Misamis Oriental with their volleyball skills which is an inspiration to other athletes.

The governor said Talaingod might have suffered defeat from Cagayan de Oro city but they have inspired a lot of athletes especially from lesser known municipalities that anybody can compete in the national scale with training and talent. He said he love the way Talaingod compete since they did not just roll over against Cagayan but fight toe to toe with their more popular opponents.

Del Norte hoped he can see more lesser known town present a strong showing against established sports team in the future.

Southshield FC Dominates 2016 Tagum Football Festival

Davao city based football club Southield has won two championships in the recent 2016 Tagum City Football Festival at the Energy Park in Tagum City. The 10 and under team of Southshield won the championship in the tournament participated in by some of the top football clubs in region 11.

The team who are mostly made up of students from Southpoint School in Barangay Maa beat Panabo in the finals 2-0 to win the crown. The team coached by Roland Manabit are made up of Charles Kenn Chiu, Louiz Herrera, Zyk Lopez, Gerardo Coronado, Niel Imperial, Karl Sumampong, Gelo Lacerna, Aj Guingguing, Devo Kierulf, EJ Cabiles and Ryan Dordas.

The eight and under team of Southshield has also won the championship in the same tournament. The parents and students of the team are very happy with their twin victory because their decision to go outside Davao to compete in a football tournament has again yielded a positive result.
The Southshield 10 and under team lead by their coach Ronald Manabit were all smiles after ruling the 2016 Tagum City Football Festival at the Energy Park in Tagum City by beating Panabo City in the Finals 2-0.

DC lands 4th place overall in recent BP Nat’l Games


The young athletes from Davao City finished fourth overall in the just concluded Batang Pinoy 2016 National Championships in Tagum City, Davao del Norte. DavaO City finished with 134 medals in the week-long event consisting of 31 golds, 44 silvers, and 59 bronzes.

The event was ruled by Cebu City with 42 golds, 30 silvers, and 30 bronzes. The second place honor went to Baguio City placed with 38 golds, 30 silvers, and 30 bronzes. Zamboanga city on the otherhand got the third place with  34 golds, 22 silvers and 24 bronzes.

Rounding up the top 10 were DasmariƱas Cavite (21-16-7) fifth, Leyte Province (19-18-140 sixth, Cebu Province (17-17-17) seventh, General Santos City (16-19-18) eighth, Laguna (16-11-20) ninth and Quezon City (16-9-10) 10th.

Davao Sepak Boys bag silver


The Davao City sepak takraw boys team from Barangay Maa has bagged the silver medal in the just concluded  Batang Pinoy 2016 National Championships at the University of Southeastern Philippines (Usep) Gym in Barangay Apokon Gym here Friday, December 2.

The team coached by Ruel Yataza lose to eventual champion  Surigao del Norte, 15-14, 10-15, 11-15. Taking the silver medal is a great feat for the team since they were able to beat defending champion Bacolod City 15-10, 17-15, 16-14 to barged into the finals against Surigao del Norte. With their silver medal finish this year, Yataza said they will train harder and aim for the gold next year.

The second place team was composed of Jieremy Anino, Roger Yudelmo, Jr. Dominic James Sagosoy, Jimboy Oracion, and Bryan Jay Gernale. Meanwhile, in the distaff side, Mati City recovered from a first set loss to beat Batad, Iloilo, 9-15, 15-9, 15-11 to clinch the gold.

Mati was bannered by Mary Melody Taming, Allyssa Bandoy, Hans Danielle Garanzo and Naifa Sarip with coach Deng Angelo Damiles at the helm.
