While most young boxers today idolizes Manny Pacman Pacquiao the lone boxing gold medallist from Davao City in the recent 2016 Batang Pinoy in Tagum City, Davao Del Norte has a different idol. Junmilardo Ogayre winner in the junior boys’ lightweight said he wants to follow in the footstep of the Filipino flash Nonito Donaire, Jr.
“Gusto ko siyang lumaban, malakas at ‘yung timing niya,” said the 17-year-old Criminology major of the University of Mindanao. Ogayre won the gold earlier after beating in the Finals Jerald Into of Zamboanga del Sur via unanimous decision at the Tagum City Trade and Cultural Center.
The aspiring professional boxer who started boxing at nine years old is the sixth among eight sibling.
Prior to his Batang Pinoy gold Ogayre has earlier won the gold in the Davao Region Athletic Association Meet and Mindanao Boxing Cup. “Pangarap kong mag-national team, tapos mag-professional din gaya ni Donaire,” Ogayre added.
