The local government of Mati City in Davao Oriental is set to host the National Age-Group Chess Championships on March 23 to 25 at the Baywalk Hotel.
Mati City mayor Carlo Rabat is very happy with the chance to host the prestigious chess tournament since it will further boost the sport and tourism development of his city.
The annual chessfest is organized by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) under its president
Prospero Pichay.
Rabat assured the organizers, participants and guests that Mati welcomes them with an open arms and will do its best to make their stay in the city comfortable and memorable.
NCFP regional coordinator James Infiesto revealed the top three to five per age category in the Mindanao leg
will advance to the grand finals in Manila by April where the winners will earn spots to the
Asean Age-Group Chess Championships in Davao City slated June 18 to 28.
