This developed after BCNHS upset the defending champion Davao City National High School (DCNHS) to win the 2017 2nd Guillermo E. Torres (GET) Inter-Public High School basketball tournament.
Behind the exploits of tournament most valuable player James Belulo BCNHS beat DCNHS 95-85 in the finals to win the crown and the bragging rights as the best public high schools basketball team in Davao City.
Belulo scored 26 points in the finals.
Belulo's teammates Jonathan Bajao, Remelio Harina and Peter Pansit also played well in the championship game.
The three players mentioned above scored a total of 47 points for their team in their win against the tough DCNHS team.
The other members of the champion team are the following: Justin Batilo, Jezreel Iman, Judirick Belingan, Benjamin Camandia, Vincent Pantonial, Andrei Ngoho, Billy Ebrero and Francis Ningwa.
Meanwhile, Keith Realino and Daniel Josh Villanueva scored 18 and 15 points respectively for DCNHS in a losing cause.
The third place went to Duterte National High School who beat Tugbok National High School in their battle for third match-up.
