Stella Maris Student Wins Gold In 18th Asean Age Group Open Chess Championships In Malaysia

A 13-year-old student of Stalle Maris Academy  of Davao (Smad) brought honors to Davao City by winning a gold, two silvers and a bronze in the recent 18th Asean Age Group Open Chess Championships 2017 at the Kuantan, Pahang, Malaysia.
Blance Ellyz Bongato combined forces with Ruth Joy Vinuya of Isabela province and Alphecca Gonzales of Cebu City to win the gold medal in the girls 14 team blitz.
The tournament features some promising players from the Asean region such as  Malaysia, Singapore, China, Australia and Vietnam.
The promising chess player from Davao City also got a silver in girls 14 team rapid event where she combined forces with Regina Quinanola of Cebu City and Vinuya.
The first time player in the prestigious tournament also took second place in the individual rapid division.
Before ending her memorable international chess campaign, Bongato also took the broze medal in the girls under 14 standard.
Bongata said she jsut did her best and enjoy the moment in her Asean chessfest participation.
