It cannot be denied that being a member of the Social Security System (SSS) is a huge benefit to working individuals in the country.
It is a sad fact, however, that many self-employed workers today do not have SSS since they cannot afford or do not have access to it.
To bring relief to self employed workers such as tricycle drivers who want to become members of SSS in Barangay Dumoy, the barangay officials led by barangay captain Jessie Mar Culaste have decided to adopt the
SSS AlkanSSSya program in his barangay.
The SSS AlkanSSSya program allows self-employed workers to set aside a portion of their income daily to a money bank inside the barangay to pay their SSS monthly premium of 300 at the end of the month.
"Puede sila magbutang 20 kada adlaw para at the end of the month makuha na sila ang 300 monthly contribution sa SSS," Culaste explained.
Culaste said the SSS AlkanSSSya program greatly benefits his constituents who want to become members of SSS but do not have the money to pay the required monthly contribution.
"Dako ang tabang sa SSS especially sa burial kay kung makahatag kana first payment sa SSS automatic member kana ug maka avail naka burial benefit nga dakong tabang especicially katong financially challenge nato nga mga igsoon," Culaste added.
He said in their barangay; they have two SSS AlkanSSSya inside the barangay and the other one at the Dacoville tricycle terminal to cater to the tricycle drivers in the said area.
The long-time barangay captain said the SSS program benefits the Barangay Dumoy functionaries.
"Every end of the month naay representative ang SSS nga mokuha sa mga alkansiya para makuha ang bayad sa miyembro sa among barangay," Culaste said.
