In 2016, Bendor Calamba served as the second councilor in Barangay Talomo, Davao City.
In the same year, fate has something special in store for the service-oriented Calamba, which would forever change his life as a public servant.
That year, the first elected councilor of Barangay Talomo died, and Calamba assumed his post as the top councilor in one of the biggest barangays in Davao City.
Also that year, Barangay Talomo barangay captain Artemio Jimenez died, which gave Calamba, a professional electrical engineer, a chance to become the next barangay chair of his barangay.
While most politicians would quickly grab the chance to take the role of barangay captain, Calamba is of a different breed since he is initially reluctant to accept what fate gave him.
As Calamba was mulling the option to accept the role or not, the Department of Interior and Local Government gave him a choice to accept the role or gave up his position as top councilor.
After consulting with his family, Calamba eventually accepted the role as the new barangay captain of Talomo, which is made up of 80 puroks.
As the newly assumed barangay chair of Talomo, Calamba took the role very seriously since he wanted to offer real public service to his constituents.
Calamba continued his pet projects of scholarship and medical assistance to the people of Talomo.
He also initiated some infrastructure projects from the office of then-first district congressman Karlo Nograles.
Two years after he assumed office, the new chairman of Barangay Talomo, Calamba, ran and won convincingly, as the people loved how he handled their barangay.
Since being elected as barangay captain in 2018, Calamba has initiated many projects that benefitted the people of Barangay Talomo.
The projects comprised infrastructure, livelihood, medical assistance, scholarships, and peace and order, among others, which endeared him even further to the resident of Barangay Talomo.
Almost seven years since he becomes the barangay captain of Talomo, Calamba continues to make a difference in the lives of his constituents since he believes his current position is God-given. Hence, he must always offer genuine and selfless public service to his people.
