The opening of the city-wide basketball and volleyball league organized by the PBA party-list was recently held in Dona Pillar gymnasium in Barangay Sasa.
PBA party-list congresswoman Migs Nograles held the opening jn Barangay Sasa since she allocated five million of her congressional funds to renovate Dona Pillar gym.
The decision of the PBA party-list to do the opening in Sasa is also an indication that the sports program of Barangay Sasa chairman Jerry Licarte is working well.
Licarte was present during the opening to support the participants, especially the home team, Barangay Sasa basketeers, and volleybelles.
Since he assumed the post as barangay captain in 2018, sports development has been one of his top priorities to promote health and keep the youth from illegal drugs.
Licarte has initiated the construction of various gyms in his barangays for sports and social events.
The service-oriented barangay captain also offers prizes and support to various sports leagues in the different puroks in Barangay Sasa.
Last July 30 of this year, a team from Barangay Sasa won the championship in the women's division of the Second District Volleyball League.
The team represented by Dona Pillar beat other barangays from the second district to win the coveted trophy.
Licarte is very happy and proud of the achievement of their team.
The win of Barangay Sasa is a strong indication that the sports program under the leadership of Licarte and solid and effective.
Since he assumed officer barangay chairman in 2018, Licarte has made it a point to prioritize sports in his administration.
Licarte, in coordination with the Sanguniang Kabataan in his barangay, initiated various sports-related tournaments such as Zumba, basketball, and volleyball, among others.
The service-oriented Licarte prioritized sports in his administration since he wanted a healthy lifestyle for his constituents and to keep the youth away from illegal drugs.
With the strong support from Licarte, athletes from Barangay Sasa are very inspired to play, and most of them won their events while representing their barangay.
To show his deep commitment to sports in his barangay, Licarte, who had been serving Barangay Sasa for the past 23 years, made it a point to attend the championship in almost all of these tournaments to inspire the participants and show them that they have his all-out support.
With Licarte's firm stance on sports, the sports and development of Barangay Sasa are in good hands today and in the next few years to come.
