Dumoy National High School An Institution Built on Jessie Mar Culaste's Love For Public Education

Unknown to many, especially those who reside outside Barangay Dumoy, Davao City, the establishment of Dumoy National High School is the handiwork of long-time Dumoy Barangay Captain Jessie Mar Culaste.

Culaste said he personally worked hard to establish Dumoy National High School in 2011 after seeing that the students in his barangay had to ride a jeepney or tricycle just to enroll in nearby Barangay Toril for their high school education since his barangay did not have a public high school.

He said the traveling is too risky for students and a financial burden for parents, especially those in need.

Traveling outside Dumoy to study high school education is also too risky because of the presence of gangs in the year 2000s.

To bring joy to the students and their parents, he established Dumoy National High School with the help of the city government of Davao and the Department of Education.

Culaste recalled when he first established Dumoy National High School, it had only one building and could not cater to the four levels of high school education then.

But with the help of the city, Deped, and the Department of Public Works and Highways Dumoy National High School slowly grows through the years.

He said at the moment, Dumoy National High School is now an independent high school that caters to all levels of high school education, including senior high school.

The service-oriented barangay official said the school now has two major buildings, two secondary buildings, and a gymnasium.

Culaste said since the people trusted him as a barangay captain in 2002, he considers the establishment of Dumoy National High School as one of his lasting legacy.
