Under Jessie Mar Culaste's leadership, Barangay Dumoy is a champion and model in DC's solid waste management program

In his first term as barangay chairman of Barangay Dumoy in 2002, one of the top priorities of Jessie Mar Culaste was the solid waste management program of his beloved barangay.

To ensure that the garbage of his barangay was collected correctly and thrown, he bought mini dump trucks to be used in his barangay.

Aside from proper garbage collection, Culaste also ensures garbage will not litter the barangay by placing garbage bins in designated places where residents can throw their trash.

His barangay's solid waste management program caught the eye of the City Environment and Natural Resources, who declared them as one of the top performers in Davao City.

Culaste said in 2010, the Department of Interior and Local Government, in coordination with the office of Senator Bong Revilla, also awarded Barangay Dumoy for being a top performer in the solid waste management program.

"Nakadawat mi ug award kang Senator Bong Revilla the Idol ko si Kap Award," Culaste said.

Culaste added that in 2012 Barangay Dumoy finished as first runner-up in the search for best practices in solid waste management, which Barangay Hizon in Agdao district won.

"Nidaug mi ug P500,000 nga gigamit nako pagpalit ug barangay vehicles," Culaste added.

He said it had been the advocacy of his administration to focus on the right solid waste management system not only to bring comfort to his beloved constituents but also to protect the environment at all times.
